‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ exists, has a trailer

High on the list of things you probably never expected to be a real thing: "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," a movie about an axe-wielding, vampire-killing version of America's 16th President. Hollywood may have just set a new bar for "WTF?" movie projects in development. The ball is in your court, "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies."

Directed by Timur Bekmambetov ("Wanted"), "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" is an adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith's mash-up novel of the same name. The film tells the story of the secret double life of Honest Abe. This fictional version of President Lincoln, played by Benjamin Walker ("Flags of Our Fathers"), is a respected statesman by day and fearless vampire killer by night.

The film co-stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead ("Scott Pilgrim vs. The World") as Lincoln's wife Mary, Rufus Sewell ("Dark City") as his vampire nemesis, and Dominic Cooper ("Captain America") as the POTUS' vampire-slaying mentor. Author Grahame-Smith also wrote the screenplay for the film, so fans of the original novel can rest easy: the movie will remain faithful to its off-the-wall source material.

Bekmambetov is no stranger to the undead. The Russian-Kazakh filmmaker rose to international fame with his supernatural "Night Watch" series. "Vampire Hunter" is Bekmambetov's second collaboration with produce/director Tim Burton, who co-produced the animated film "9" with him in 2009. The film marks the start of what is going to be a very vampire-filled year for Burton, whose next film is the bloodsucking soap opera "Dark Shadows," starring Johnny Depp.

"Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" is due in theatres on June 22, 2012.
