‘Twins’ sequel ‘Triplets’ casts Eddie Murphy as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito’s long-lost triplet
And they say Hollywood is out of ideas! According to the Hollywood Reporter, a sequel to the 1988 Ivan Reitman comedy "Twins" is in the works at Universal. The film, tentatively titled "Triplets," will reunite Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito as the very fraternal twins Julius and Vincent, as well as add another brother to the mix -- played by none other than Eddie Murphy.
What invariably started as a pitch-meeting joke has now ballooned into an actual movie. You really can't make this stuff up.
The original film starred Schwarzenegger and DeVito as two extremely unlikely brothers born out of a genetic experiment -- Julius, a bookish genius and physical superman, and Vincent, a stocky, angry, small-time crook. The $15 million movie was a smash, raking in more than $200 million at the box office. It's surprising that a sequel has taken this long to get off the ground.
That potential sequel, "Triplets," is still in the very early stages of development. With no official green light or even a director attached at the moment, the film might not even happen. Murphy would play the pair's long-lost sibling who was created as part of the same experiment.
Reitman ("Ghostbusters") is producing the film along with his company Montecito Pictures, but he has not committed to helming the film.
What do you think? Are you ready for a sequel to "Twins"? Or is this yet another sequel that nobody asked for?
