‘Anchorman’ sequel confirmed by Will Ferrell on ‘Conan’

Wednesday night, professional funnyman Will Ferrell -- or rather, legendary news anchor Ron Burgundy -- made a surprise appearance on Conan O'Brien's late-night talk show to make a very special announcement and to play some mean jazz flute. After a highly improvised musical performance, "Burgundy" proceeded to rib host O'Brien about his looks before making his big, exciting announcement: A sequel to the 2004 cult comedy "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" has officially been given the green light.

"As of oh-nine-hundred hours Mountain Time, Paramount Pictures and myself, Ronald Joseph Aaron Burgundy, have come to terms on a sequel to 'Anchorman,'" said the fake newsman in those beautiful dulcet tones. "It is official: There will be a sequel to 'Anchorman!'"

Ferrell/Burgundy then took up his flute once more and made a very jazzy exit. Watch the announcement for yourself:

According to Deadline, "Anchorman 2" will reunite director Adam McKay with the entire Channel 4 news team, including Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carrell, and David Koechner. The film will be produced by Hollywood comedy godfather Judd Apatow.

This is not the first time the idea of an "Anchorman" sequel has been floated. Ferrell and McKay pitched Paramount on a Broadway musical-style sequel several years ago, but the studio nixed the idea even after all the actors offered to take pay cuts.

"Anchorman 2" has no release date yet, but the "Conan" announcement means that the film is finally happening. You stay classy, "Anchorman" fans! It won't be long now.
