Stallone and Schwarzenegger to double team The Tomb’

The 1980s-style action movie has experienced a bit of a renaissance in recent years with movies like "The Expendables" and sequels to "Rambo" and "Predator" making their way to theatres. For a few years there, it was a lost art form there for a few years, but thanks to action icon Sylvester Stallone the genre has made a big comeback.

With the even more star-packed sequel to "The Expendables" just around the corner, news dropped today about a one-on-one collaboration between two of action's biggest players: Stallone and former Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Mikael Hafstrom ("The Rite") will direct the two in "The Tomb," the story of a security expert (Stallone) who ends up being framed and incarcerated in an escape-proof prison that he designed. Schwarzenegger will play a fellow inmate who attempts to escape with Stallone's character. It sounds too good to be true, but sure enough, "The Tomb" is buddy-action movie starring Stallone and Schwarzenegger. Somewhere an action fan is crying tears of joy.

Regardless of the result, it's hard not to be excited about the prospect of two of action's biggest stars teaming up together on the big screen. Seeing Arnold Schwarzenegger's brief cameo opposite Sylvester Stallone in "The Expendables" was a real trip, and seeing him in an expanded role in the film's sequel (alongside the likes of Bruce Willis, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dolph Lundgren, and Chuck Norris) is going to be even more mind-blowing. With Stallone leading the pack, many of these aging action icons seem to be embracing their old ways. These older actors need work and audiences are eager to see the big screen heroes back in the saddle. It's win-win!

"The Expendables 2" isn't due out until August, while "The Tomb" won't be in theatres until next year. If you really need a Stallone and Schwarzenegger fix right now though, the two inadvertantly teamed up for shoulder surgery this week. As it turns out, being an action hero is hard work when you're in your sixties.
