Ashton Kutcher to play Steve Jobs?

It was bound to happen sooner or later. Although Apple CEO and co-founder Steve Jobs died just six months ago, producers are already working on a biopic of his life.

Variety reports that actor Ashton Kutcher ("That '70s Show," "Two and a Half Men") is currently attached to star as the computer pioneer in "Jobs," an independent film being directed by Joshua Michael Stern ("Swing Vote"). The film will reportedly follow Jobs's rise from college dropout to billionaire inventor and innovator.

While Kutcher certainly has the looks to play a young Steve Jobs, the jury is still out on whether he has the dramatic chops to convincingly play the charismatic and serious Apple co-founder. Best known for his comedic roles, the actor has occasionally strayed into more dramatic fare with films like "The Butterfly Effect" and "The Guardian," but "Jobs" will be a real test for Kutcher. Do you think he has what it takes to play Jobs?

Sony Pictures is also currently developing a film based on the life of Steve Jobs. The studio has optioned Walter Isaacson's best-selling authorized biography "Steve Jobs" for the big screen treatment, but there's no word on who they are looking to play the lead role just yet.

The competing biopics won't be the first time that the story of Apple has been adapted into a film. In 1999, TNT aired a critically acclaimed TV movie called "The Pirates of Silicon Valley," in which Jobs was played by virtual doppelganger Noah Wyle ("ER"). Similarly, that film covered Jobs's rise from hippie to CEO, as well as his personal rivalry with Microsoft's Bill Gates, played by Anthony Michael Hall ("The Breakfast Club").
