Adam Sandler ‘wins’ at the Razzie Awards

They say that it's an honour just to be nominated, but this is one honour most in Hollywood could probably do without. The winners of the annual Golden Raspberry Awards -- better known as the Razzies -- were announced Sunday night, and the big "winner" of the night? Adam Sandler.

Unlike the Oscars, which recognize outstanding achievement in film, the Razzies are given out to the very worst films and performances of the year. With categories like Worst Picture, Worst Actor, and Worst Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel, winning a Razzie is a dubious distinction in Tinseltown.

Adam Sandler's film "Jack and Jill" set a new Razzie record and took home the most trophies last night, sweeping the ceremony with more than 10 Golden Raspberry wins. Sandler appropriately took home both the Worst Actor and Actress prizes for his gender-bending dual roles in the film.

Another Sandler film, the Happy Madison-produced "Bucky Larson: Born to be a Star," was also up for a number of the top "dishonours," but "Jack and Jill" proved too bad to be beat.

Occasionally, stars will actually show up to the Razzie ceremony to sheepishly accept their awards, but Sandler did not make an appearance at last night's show. Actors like Ben Affleck, Halle Berry, and Sandra Bullock have all swallowed their pride in the past and accepted their Razzies with good humour. Many see the award as a badge of honour in Hollywood.

Winners were chosen by members of the Golden Raspberry Foundation and by voters on Rotten Tomatoes. According to Reuters, "Jack and Jill" just barely beat out teen vampire flick "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" for the evening's lowest honours. But never fear, Twihards -- there's always "Breaking Dawn - Part 2."
