Falling asteroid lights up sky in Russia's remote Yakutia
The emergencies ministry in Yakutia said all official bodies had been placed on alert as the asteroid approached but that no damage had been reported after its descent. The European Space Agency, writing on X, said the asteroid was believed to have measured 70 cm (28 inches) across and was spotted about 12 hours in advance of its appearance in the sky. Oil rises on fears about Lebanon, further OPEC+ supply cuts
Oil prices rose more than 2% on Tuesday as Israel threatened to attack the Lebanese state if its truce with Hezbollah collapses, and as investors positioned for OPEC+ to announce an extension of supply cuts this week. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose by $1.71, or 2.5%, to $69.81 per barrel. SEOUL (Reuters) -South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said on Wednesday he would lift a martial law declaration he had imposed just hours before, backing down in a standoff with parliament which rejected his attempt to ban political activity and censor the media. Yoon declared martial law on Tuesday night to thwart "anti-state forces" among his opponents. Yonhap news agency said the cabinet had agreed early on Wednesday to scrap the martial law.
