ZIMO Revisits the '90s for SS23 Collection

Emerging designer Zimo Yan marries the East with the West in her Spring/Summer 2023 collection, "Dolores Street." Inspired by 1990s Asian immigrants who left their homes to pursue a more abundant life in other countries, ZIMO's latest collection navigates the lines between Eastern and Western cultures, focusing on the experience of Asian immigrants in Mexico.

Paying respect to the precious materials brought over by ancestors to the Chinatown street, upcycled jersey cloth and leftover porcelain beads from Chinese elders are incorporated into the new garments. Buoyant ruffled hems and Mexican-style patchwork deliver Latin-inspired details, illustrating the experience of Asian Americans growing up in Western countries.

Flowing camel wrap skirts are paired with cropped bralettes covered in dainty red flowers, alongside more modest options like a deep khaki shirt dress worn with a bone corset for an extra experimental layer. Elsewhere, an evening-ready chocolate brown dress, flaunting a thigh-high slight commands attention, while a Cher Horowitz-approved yellow tartan skirt suit is ready for the office and after hours rendezvous.
