Zac Efron has revealed how one of his The Iron Claw cast members played a High School Musical-related prank on him on the set of the A24 film.

Efron, who shot to fame as Troy Bolton in the 2007 Disney Channel mega-hit, plays real-life professional wrestler Kevin Von Erich in the biographical sports drama. He appears alongside the likes of The Bear's Jeremy Allen White, Where the Crawdads Sing's Harris Dickinson, and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and Cinderella actress Lily James.

Speaking to W Magazine, Efron revealed that Dickinson kept on singing songs from High School Musical to him on the set, recalling one particular instance where he took the joke to full-on prank level.

"People like to [sing HSM songs] to mess with me. It's pretty funny," Efron said.

"We had a scene where we show up to a party where Stanley [Simons], I think, is singing a song. He performed it live, and then they just continued to move on to another song, and it was something from High School Musical.

"I had to stay in character while that was going on, and everybody else was just losing it. The camera was on me, and I was just trying to stay in character. It put me in Kevin's shoes a little bit. I felt very uncomfortable."

Jeremy Allen White recently recalled an amusing, if not incredibly awkward, moment on set of his own, where the cast members were introduced to each other as they were getting their bodies shaved for their roles. Well, it's one way to make a first impression, we guess.

The film has been released in the US ahead of its UK release next month. The critical reception has been very positive overall, with reviewers calling it a major tearjerker.

As much as of a tearjerker as when Gabriella sings 'When There Was Me and You' in HSM, though? Us UK viewers will get to make our minds up in just over a month's time.

The Iron Claw comes out in the UK on February 9.
