Young mom dead days after her baby, grandma perish from Miami-Dade house fire, reports say

A young mother has died after her baby boy and grandmother were killed in a Miami-Dade house fire just four days earlier, reports say.

Rukiyah Kendrick succumbed to her injuries Wednesday at Jackson South Medical Center after the 19-year-old was rescued from the burning home on Saturday, Miami-Dade police said.

Around 3:30 a.m., the fire trapped Kendrick, a 22-year-old man and 4-month-old Legend Larose inside the home in the 10150 block of West Circle Plaza in West Perrine.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue was initially able to remove the three from the home, but later found a 70-year-old woman dead inside after the flames were extinguished.

The identities of the man and elderly woman have not been released, and his condition is unknown.

NBC 6 South Florida reported Kendrick was Legend’s mother and the injured man was his father, Leroy Larose.

“We all had the opportunity to see her and we saw the severity of the burns and so it was devastating, and we kind of prepared ourselves,” Charlene Brooks, a family member, told the station.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, but police say it may have started in one of the bedrooms.
