Young Han Solo Shortlist Now Down To Handful Of Actors

Ever since it as announced that Disney had met with over 2,500 actors for the lead role in the upcoming ‘Young Han Solo Star Wars’ spin-off, we’ve been waiting patiently for those in charge to thin the herd.

According to The Hollywood Reporter they’ve now done just that. In fact, directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller now have as little as three, but probably more, actors to choose from for the part.

First on this list is local Brit done good Taron Egerton, who most recently appeared in ‘Eddie The Eagle’, but first drew acclaim thanks to his scene-stealing work in ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’ opposite Colin Firth and Mark Strong in 2014.

Because of his performance in the latter, 26-year-old Egerton has found himself being linked with a hoard of different Hollywood franchises. But portraying Han Solo would, obviously, prove to be an offer too good to turn down.

Taron Egerton will face competition from the US born but Ireland raised Jack Reynor. While 24-year-old Reynor is mostly known for his work in ‘Transformers: Age Of Extinction’, he also appeared in 2015’s ‘Macbeth’ and 2013’s ‘Delivery Man’.

Jack Reynor shot to prominence after his award-winning portrayal in 2012’s ‘What Richard Did’ when he was just 20-years-old.

But it’s not just boys from across the pond that are being considered for the part of Han Solo, because 26-year-old American Alden Ehrenreich is also still in the running.

Ehrenreich stole the show in the Coen Brothers’ recent comedy ‘Hail, Caesar!’, while he’s already got films with Francis Ford Coppola and Woody Allen under his belt too, thanks to his performances in 2009’s ‘Tetro’ and 2013’s ‘Blue Jasmine’.

THR also reported that, according to insiders, the actors each conducted tests in London last weekend. While they also admitted that due to the huge secrecy regarding the project there could actually still be some further names in contention, too.

They noted that ‘Brooklyn’s’ Emory Cohen and actors from Richard Linklater’s new movie ‘Everybody Wants Some’ also either tested or had meetings with Lord and Miller.

Basically, despite the options being severely reduced, we’re still really none-the-wiser about who might actually step into Han Solo’s vest. But with its release date of May 25, 2018, now almost two years away, we can expect an announcement to come sooner rather than later.
