Yandy is best known for the sexy costumes that it puts out each year in preparation for Halloween and the cultural conversations happening around it. And although the company tends to tread lightly around the topic of politics, it didn’t hold back regarding current anxiety around the 2020 election and voting.
In fact, the company found a way to blend politics and party wear with this year’s Mail-in Ballot costume — featuring a white tube dress with postal detailing and two "I Voted" bust stickers. The look is even completed with wording identifying it as a “first class mail” and reading “official ballot enclosed.”
The site also notes that the address printed onto the dress is Yandy’s “Sexy Headquarters,” attempting to remind people that voting is, well, sexy. Alicia Thompson, Director of Brand Marketing at Yandy, tells Yahoo Life that this felt like a good way to be involved in the conversation without getting too political.
“Each year, we try to tap into ideas that have dominated news cycles and public discourse. The 2020 election has provided no shortage of political content, the majority of which we decided to steer clear of. The obsession with mail-in ballots, however, ran the gamut of requirements and had been on our potential list since summer,” Thompson says. “After working on designs that complimented our Yandy Votes pasties and 2020 voter turnout campaign, the idea to offer the Mail-in Ballot alongside the Yandy Postal Babe costume clicked.”
The Postal Babe look includes a letter carrier top and navy blue shorts made to complement Yandy’s other 2020 exclusive.
“As noted on our ballot, we are the official sexy headquarters, and we're looking forward to seeing Yandy customers turn out for both Halloween and the election this year,” Thompson adds.
