Yola confirms new album 'Stand For Myself' out this summer: Listen to the first single

Yola, a Grammy-nominated artist self-described as the British "queen of country soul," releases her anticipated sophomore album "Stand For Myself" this July.

The record finds Yola returning to producer and Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach at Easy Eye Sound in Nashville, the same room where she delivered her 2019 breakthrough debut "Walk Through Fire."

"Stand For Myself" drops July 30 via Auerbach's label Easy Eye Sound.

Yola, born Yolanda Quartey, gave listeners a taste of "Stand For Myself" on Thursday with new new single "Diamond Studded Shoes." The song hears Yola depart from a country backbone delivered on "Walk Through Fire," tapping instead into vintage pop-soul with a booming message.

Yola releases her new album "Stand For Myself" on July 31, 2022.

She sings in the chorus: "We know it isn't, it ain't gonna turn out right/ We know it isn't, we know it isn't/ We know it isn't, that's why we gots to fight."

Of the song, Yola said in a statement that it "explores the false divides created to distract us from those few who are in charge of the majority of the world’s wealth and use the ‘divide and conquer’ tactic to keep it. This song calls on us to unite and turn our focus to those with a stranglehold on humanity."

Collaborators and co-writers on the new album include Ruby Amanfu, John Bettis, Pat McLaughlin, Natalie Hemby, Joy Oladokun, Paul Overstreet, Liz Rose, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Hannah Vasanth and Bobby Wood, per a news release.

Yola performs March 3, 2022, at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.
