X-Men: Apocalypse Star Olivia Munn Reveals Intense Regime For Role

Bryan Singer’s ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ is the latest superhero movie to come out at the cinema, and new addition Olivia Munn has revealed her gruelling regime for getting fit for the role.

As with most movies, especially ones involving fantasy heroes, there’s a pressure to get into shape and either lose weight or pile it on (in terms of muscle, that is).

Munn recently spoke to Women’s Health about preparing for the intense role as Psylocke - one of Apocalypse’s (Oscar Isaac) sword-wielding mutants he recruits to destroy the planet.

When it was revealed the actress had lost 12 lbs as she trained for the role, the internet hit out with claims over the alleged unhealthy lengths stars like her were going to to slim down.

But the ‘Newsroom’ star insists she lost weight a natural, healthy way: “My intention was to just get as fit and as healthy as I could be, for myself,” she shared during her WH cover shoot. “By the time I was finished [filming], I was 12 pounds less than I started!…It’s a big difference because I started working out every single day, and then I also started getting into eating 20-80, where 80 percent of your diet is fruits and vegetables and 20 percent is whatever.”

Already a black belt in taekwondo, Munn undertook sword training, saying she found the experience “really empowering” after seeing the end results, which likely accelerated any weight loss.

Munn is all too familiar with how brutally opinionated people can be: “I think…when you’re in the public eye, [scrutiny] does come with it,“ she admits. "People want to say things… My girlfriend, she said to me the other day, ‘If people are wondering why you look younger, it’s better than them asking why do you look older.”

Munn’s role in the ‘X-Men’ film doesn’t offer a whole lot of screen time (or wardrobe for that matter) but despite losing a lot of weight, she appear unhealthy, just in good shape for the role - which shows that healthy eating and exercise are effective when done correclty.
