With their countries deeply divided over Israel's attacks on Gaza, finance officials from the Group of 20 major economies are poised to set aside geopolitics and focus on global economic issues when they meet in Sao Paulo, Brazil this week. Brazil, keen to ensure a productive session that delivers consensus on key economic priorities, has proposed a much shorter closing statement than seen in recent years - a move already negotiated with other members, according to a Brazilian government source and a second source familiar with the draft.

A groom-to-be with cerebral palsy wants to change his ‘Dr Who robot' voice for a Brummie accent so he can say ‘I do’ on his wedding day with his local twang. Jack Wells, 21, relies on a computer system that he operates with his eyes in order to communicate, similar to the system used by the late Professor Stephen Hawking. But his current voice has a North American accent and has left Jack wanting to get back to his roots and sound like his family from Erdington, Birmingham. He is now working with his college, National Star, in Cheltenham, Glos., to search for a suitable voice donor with his native accent in time for his big day.

The move comes amid growing U.S. pressure on President Mahmoud Abbas to shake up the Palestinian Authority as international efforts have intensified to stop the fighting in Gaza and begin work on a political structure to govern the enclave after the war.

Residents are baffled after the council could 'only afford' to repair a stretch of their pothole-filled road - leaving most of it full of holes. Last week workers visited Caernarvon Road in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, after weeks of complaints from residents over the state of the road. But they only filled in huge potholes on a small stretch - around 160m - leaving the remaining bit of around 800m filled with potholes, up to 50cm in size. Residents claim the council told they they only had enough cash in the kitty to fill in the tiny stretch. And a council spokesperson confirmed they were making the "best use of our planned resources" and the rest would be done in the "next financial year".
Renault unveiled its highly anticipated new electric R5 on Monday at the Geneva Motor Show, a model directly inspired by its 1972 bestseller that the French automaker hopes will bring a major boost to its electric vehicle sales. Ryanair will receive even fewer Boeing aircraft by the end of June than previously expected, CEO Michael O'Leary said on Friday, potentially prompting the budget carrier to cut its summer schedule at the busiest time of the year. The Dublin-based airline is the first in Europe to warn of disruption due a deepening crisis at Boeing, which has been mired in a regulatory audit and has been prohibited from ramping up 737 MAX production since the Jan. 5 mid-air panel blowout of a new Alaska Airlines MAX 9. Ryanair was due to receive 57 Boeing MAX 8200 planes by end-April, but just over a week ago Boeing told the airline it would receive around 50 aircraft by end-June, O'Leary said.
The Taliban held a public execution on Monday of a man convicted of murder in northern Afghanistan as thousands watched at a sports stadium, the third such death sentence to be carried out in the past five days. It was also the fifth public execution since the Taliban seized power of Afghanistan in August 2021 as the U.S. and NATO troops were in the final weeks of their withdrawal from the country after two decades of war. The development was ominous as the Taliban, despite initial promises of a more moderate rule, began carrying out severe punishments in public — executions, floggings and stonings — shortly after coming to power.
