‘Wish’ Actor Harvey Guillén On Disney “Making Strides In The Right Direction” In Representation & Says A Queer Princess Would Be “Fantastic”

Harvey Guillén, who voices Gabo in Disney’s Wish, is giving his take on the studio’s inclusivity efforts on their animated films.

Looking back at the 100 years since Walt Disney Animation Studios was created, the actor said the studio was going in the “right direction.”

“I think they’re making strides in the right direction,” Guillén told ComicBook in an interview. “I think it’s hard to rebuild a wheel that’s already been in motion for a while, and it’s hard to think of a new direction, especially in where we’re at with the world, but they’re putting their best foot forward, I think. And sometimes those things take time, and I’m optimistic.”

After it was suggested if a queer princess would be in the future, Guillén said, “that’d be fantastic.”

“And I think that we are in the lifespan of that potentially happening,” he added. “And that could be a reality. It’s just, like I said, it takes time with stuff like that. Representation has taken so long just in film in general with every studio and every company. And so it’s taken us this far to come this far but look how far we’ve gotten.”

Guillén lent his voice to Gabo in the Walt Disney Animation Studios film directed by Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn. Gabo is described as a cynical boy with a heart of gold and part of The Teens. Guillén shared the voice roles with Ariana DeBose, Chris Pine, Ala Tudyk, Angelique Cabral, Victor Garber, Natasha Rothwell, Niko Vargas, Evan Peters, Ramy Youssef, among many more.

Wish is set to be available on Blu-ray starting March 12.
