Wimbledon 2022 LIVE: Katie Boulter vs Harmony Tan latest reaction and results today as Brit crashes out

Wimbledon 2022 - LIVE!

Katie Boulter’s Wimbledon run came to a screeching halt as Harmony Tan cruised past the Brit to reach the fourth round. After beating Karolina Pliskova, runner-up at SW19 a year ago, in the second round, hopes were high that Boulter could continue her best ever Grand Slam performance with another strong display.

But she never got going against Tan, who knocked out Serena Williams in her opening match, as the Frenchwoman produced a 51-minute demolition job to win 6-1 6-1. There were 20 unforced errors from the Boulter racket, with just 8 winners, as a really positive grass-court season came to an end in incredibly disappointing fashion.

It means that Heather Watson is the last remaining British woman in the singles draw - she’ll return to action on Sunday. Follow Standard Sport’s coverage below to see how Boulter fell to a disappointing defeat on Court 2.

Brutal performance

Tan 6-1 6-1 Boulter

11:58 , Matt Verri

Another punishing winner from Tan, who wants to get the job done right now. That’s into the net though, 15-30.

Shanked backhand from Boulter, this has been so disappointing. She’ll be incredibly frustrated with how it’s gone this morning.

The Brit can’t get a tough volley back and that’s 30-40. Match point Tan.

Double fault! Tan has absolutely demolished Boulter on Court 2. 6-1 6-1.

Tan 6-1 5-1* Boulter

11:54 , Matt Verri

Boulter looks to be well-beaten now, resigned to her fate. More unforced errors and it’s 40-0.

Backhand down the line from Tan, Boulter barely moves and it’s a hold to love. Tan just one game away now.

Tan 6-1 *4-1 Boulter

11:51 , Matt Verri

Tan looks so comfortable over the swinging volley. Puts another one away to move 0-30 up.

And then a sensational forehand crosscourt! Boulter was in control of the point but Tan produces a wonderful winner. Three break points - almost feel like match points.

One saved, Tan shanks the attempt at a pass. Boulter saves the second though, but can do nothing about the third as Tan hammers a backhand pass.

A set and a double break up now.

Tan 6-1 3-1* Boulter

11:47 , Matt Verri

Boulter gets herself into the rally but then sends the backhand halfway up the net. Head drops in response.

Skip in the Brit’s step now though as she watches a Tan slice drift wide, 30-30. As much pressure as she’s put on the Tan serve all match.

Lovely forehand winner from Boulter, who at last is starting to look more comfortable. Deuce.

Tan comes through that brief test though to remain a break up in the second set.

Tan 6-1 *2-1 Boulter

11:41 , Matt Verri

Big cheers from Crowd 2 as Boulter has a first comfortable hold of the match!

First serve came out to play, a couple of really nice forehands and it’s a hold to love. Hopefully that will help get things back on track after a disastrous first 40 minutes or so.

Tan 6-1 2-0* Boulter

11:40 , Matt Verri

This is absolutely ruthless from Tan. Forehand pass is too good and it’s 40-0 in no time at all.

Boulter drags the backhand a long way out and Tan is marching through this match.

Tan 6-1 *1-0 Boulter

11:37 , Matt Verri

Boulter to serve at the start of the second set. Has to hold and get herself going.

But it’s another shaky start, up to the net but can’t make the volley. 0-30 and Tan sending an opportunity to take complete control of the match.

Forehand pass from Tan is... brilliant! Just caught the line, needed a challenge to prove it though. Three break points.

One will do. Boulter with a wild forehand and Tan is a set and a break up!

Tan 6-1 Boulter

11:33 , Matt Verri

Second-serve ace from Tan, safe to say she’s feeling pretty good about life right. 30-0 up and two points away from the set.

Ace out wide brings up two set points and another ace swiftly gets the job done.

That’s a ruthless first set from Tan.

Tan *5-1 Boulter

11:30 , Matt Verri

Tan full of confidence. Forehand pushes Boulter out wide and the swinging volley is then put away with minimal fuss. 0-30.

And now it’s three break points - Tan on the verge of serving for the set already.

Boulter saves the first with a big forehand, but that’s into the net and Tan is a double break up.

Tan 4-1* Boulter

11:27 , Matt Verri

Almost. Boulter brings Tan forward with a drop shot, then looks to send the lob sailing over her head but it’s just out.

That’s absolutely superb from Tan - crunches a backhand down the line and Boulter barely moves. Stunning. 40-15.

Brit looks to be aggressive with the second-serve return, it’s long though and that’s a comfortable hold for Tan.

Tan *3-1 Boulter

11:23 , Matt Verri

This is a really shaky start from Boulter. Tan’s slice lands just inside the baseline, skids on and Boulter can’t do anything with it.

Next point a swinging volley from the Brit is sent long - 0-30. Needs to find a way to get a hold here and establish herself in the match. That helps, Boulter’s serve turns up right when it was needed. 30-30.

Lovely forehand winner crosscourt, but Boulter then dumps the backhand into the net. Deuce.

Tan in control again, Boulter sends the slice wide. Break point Tan. Saved by the Brit, good aggressive point and Tan can’t get the lob in play. Back to deuce.

Unforced error from Tan, forehand down the line from Boulter - she’s on the board! Big hold.

Tan 3-0* Boulter

11:16 , Matt Verri

What is going on with this net? This time Boulter hammers a return and watches the net cord work in her favour.

Lovely slice from Tan, Boulter can only flick it straight up and it’s a simple put-away at the net. Big first serve, Boulter can’t get it back. 40-15.

Boulter tries the slice, sails wide and Tan continues her impressive start.

Tan *2-0 Boulter

11:13 , Matt Verri

That’s a welcome settler of a point for Boulter, after a few unforced errors in the opening game. Big backhand crosscourt, flat backhand down the line and Tan has no response. Double fault to follow though, before a forehand from Boulter flies miles long. 15-30. Change of racket too, could well be a broken string.

Volley from Tan clips the top of the net and trickles down perfectly from her perspective. Two break points - not sure she really means that hand up in apology!

Serve and volley from Boulter to save the first but Tan takes the second! Another net cord in her favour, before the lob drops in.

Tan with the perfect start.

Tan 1-0* Boulter

11:08 , Matt Verri

First shot in anger of the day from Boulter and she shanks it high into the stands. Best to get it out the way nice and early...

Backhand is then long from the Brit but she gets up and running with a nice lob, finishing the point with a simple volley at the net. 30-15.

Tan rushes through the next couple of points to seal a routine early hold.

Here we go...

Warm-ups done, players back to their chairs. We’re ready to get Day 6 at Wimbledon up and running!

It will be Tan to serve first.

Players out on court!

11:00 , Matt Verri

Boulter and Tan have made their way out to Court 2.

Certainly not full yet - probably less than half the seats filled at the moment Seems a shame this has been scheduled for first match on Court 2, rather than on Centre or Court 1 later this afternoon.

10:58 , Matt Verri

Boulter will be hoping to wrap up victory quickly this morning - her boyfriend Alex De Minaur is in action against Brit Liam Broady at 1pm.

Quick straight-sets win and then over to Court 1 will be the plan for Boulter!

Brits still very much outsiders...

10:53 , Matt Verri

Boulter favourite to come through this morning’s match, as difficult as it may well be.

Still a long way to go after that though - here’s those that are well-fancied in the women’s singles draw and how the two remaining Brits compare!

Cloudy conditions at the moment over Court 2 - no rain expected though. We’ve already had a few delays this week, hopefully that won’t be a problem today.

Umpire is out on court, players will be joining her in about ten minutes.

Emotional win last time out

Boulter taking inspiration from unlikely triumphs

10:40 , Matt Verri

Katie Boulter is hoping to follow in the footsteps of both Emma Raducanu and Leicester City, after knocking out last year’s Wimbledon runner-up Karolina Pliskova in three sets, writes Matt Majendie.

A repeat of the match between the pair at Eastbourne ended in another win for the world No118, as she overpowered the former world No1 3-6, 7-6, 6-4.

Boulter said Raducanu’s unlikely US Open win and the Foxes’ similarly implausible Premier League title win in 2016 left her believing she could pull off her own sporting surprise.

On Raducanu’s fairytale New York win, Boulter said: “What she did was astonishing. I think everyone knows how incredible what she did was. It doesn’t come every single day. She came out, surprised everyone and played some fearless tennis. That’s what’s so impressive.”

Prediction

10:32 , Matt Verri

Tan was impressive to back-up her win over Williams with a comfortable victory over Sara Sorribes Tormo in the second round. Those are her first ever wins in the main-draw at Wimbledon.

But Boulter is full of confidence herself after a really strong grass-court season and held her nerve on Centre Court to get past Pliskova.

With the Court 2 crowd very much on her side, Boulter is well capable of extending her brilliant run.

Boulter to win in three sets.

Start time

10:18 , Matt Verri

Play will get underway at 11am BST this morning, on Court No2.

It was a surprise decision to put the match there, rather than on one of the show courts later this afternoon. Boulter’s win over Pliskova came on Centre Court, as did Tan’s victory over Williams in the first round.

Good news for fans on Court 2 though!

Good morning!
