Why Prince George and Princess Charlotte need to go to Sweden with their parents

Princess Madeleine’s dream of her kids having a playdate with Prince George and Princess Charlotte may come true, that is if the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge decide to take their children with them on tour to Norway and Sweden in early 2018.

Kensington Palace announced on Tuesday (Oct. 17) that Prince William and Kate will carry out a tour on behalf of the Foreign Office early next year, although exact dates have yet to be confirmed. The couple was originally scheduled to make the trip to northern Europe in November, but visits to Sweden and Norway were rescheduled to give the duchess time to recover from morning sickness. A solo William will carry out the Finland portion of the tour next month.

The tour announcement has ignited some anticipation of a royal Scandinavian playdate! The palace has not commented on the likelihood of George and Charlotte joining their parents, but should they make the journey then they’ll get the chance to meet Sweden’s ever-growing brood of royal playmates, including Princess Victorias children Princess Estelle, 5, and one-year-old Prince Oscar.

Little Charlotte may find a new best friend in Princess Madeleine and Chris O’Neill’s daughter Princess Leonore, 3, and George is sure to become fast friends with her younger sibling Prince Nicholas, 2. Rounding out the adorable crew are Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia’s two sons, Prince Alexander, 1, and two-month-old Prince Gabriel.

Given that George and Charlotte travelled to Poland and Germany with their parents, another trip is certainly plausible. Royal fans are beside themselves at the possibility of seeing the next generation of ruling royals meeting for the first time.

Perhaps equally as exciting as their children finally meeting, is Kate and Madeleine’s first connection. The Swedish royal, speaking to People, expressed her excitement for meeting the Duchess, “I’m sure we will cross paths—and who knows what we will do when we do!”
