Kanye West's 9.6 million Instagram followers were left feeling confused this week after finding out the rapper had completely wiped his account. Kanye – who legally changed his name to Ye earlier this year – removed all of his posts from his profile, leaving only a plain black profile picture.
The move comes after a tumultuous few weeks for the 44-year-old, who's made a number of public statements about his family and his relationship with estranged wife, Kim Kardashian. In November, the rapper gave a speech in Los Angeles in which he vowed to reconcile with his ex, stating that "everything can be redeemed." He went on to claim he would be "changing the narrative" around his marriage, before sharing a throwback photo of him and Kim kissing each other.
Just a few days later, the rapper discussed his marriage once again during a five-minute Thanksgiving prayer. During the prayer, Kanye revealed he had "embarrassed" Kim by publicly supporting Donald Trump during his run for presidency, and revealing that they had considered aborting their now 8-year-old daughter, North.
But, it's not the first time the rapper has wiped his social media. In fact, it's become quite the regular occurrence for Kanye. This year alone, he's deleted his account a number of times – most notably just before the release of his latest album, Donda. Although, he did swiftly return to the social media platform.
But, why Kanye has deleted his posts again has caused some fans to raise concerns for his mental health, particularly after the death of his close friend, Virgil Abloh. The Louis Vuitton creative director and Off White founder passed away over the weekend after a secret battle with a rare form of cancer. Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: "I hope Kanye is processing this Virgil news as best as possible. Lord knows he loved that man like a brother."

The pair, who are both from Chicago, first met back in 2002 and became close friends whilst working as interns at Fendi in 2009. Kanye later went on to name Virgil as the creative director of his own creative agency, Donda, and the duo worked together on a number of the rapper's most well-known albums, including Yeezus and Watch the Throne.
