When The White Lotus season one dropped on HBO and NOW, viewers flocked to social media to call it "fabulous", "iconic" and "binge-watchable." Seriously, it was SO. GOOD.
The good news is a second series was quickly confirmed, and The White Lotus will officially get a follow up. Here's everything else you need to know, including its release date and a first look at the cast in action. This is going to be so good.
Do we have a trailer for The White Lotus season 2?
Yes! A first look trailer for the second season dropped at the beginning of October 2022, around three weeks before the series is due to land on NOW. HBO shared the trailer on Twitter alongside the caption, "A vacation to die for."
The trailer (watch it above) begins with Jennifer Coolidge aka Tanya saying, "Whenever I stay at The White Lotus, I always have a memorable time. Always", before giving us a glimpse at an Italian holiday filled with, er, cheating, drugs and potentially death. Classic The White Lotus, then.
Can you watch The White Lotus season 2 without watching season 1?
Ultimately, season two looks like it could standalone from season one, in that the characters are mostly different, the setting has changed and the storylines don't connect. But watching season one first would probably offer some context to The White Lotus hotels, and Tanya and Greg's relationship.
Who will star in The White Lotus season 2?
Speaking to IndieWire, creator Mike White explained there would unlikely be any repeat guests from season one. "I don’t think you can credibly have [all the Season 1 guests] on the same vacation again," he said. "But maybe it could be a Marvel universe type thing, where some of them would come back."
Two guests that are *definitely* coming back for season two are Jennifer Coolidge as Tanya, and her love interest Greg, played by Jon Gries, who bonded in Hawaii in season two. In HBO Max's upcoming slate trailer, the pair can be seen loving life on a Vespa, living out their Italian holiday dreams. Amazing.
The first character announced for The White Lotus season two was a completely new face. Michael Imperioli, aka Christopher Moltisanti in The Sopranos, will play Dominic Di Grasso, a man travelling with his elderly father and recent college graduate son.
Parks and Recreation's Aubrey Plaza was also announced to be joining the cast, playing a woman who is holidaying with family and friends named Harper Spiller.
TV Line reported that The King's Man star Tom Hollander has also been cast in the series, alongside Split's Haley Lu Richardson, Oscar winner and Mythic Quest actor F Murray Abraham and Adam DiMarco from Magicians.
As of February 2022 The White Lotus added *four* more characters to the cast, and they're all pretty exciting. Newcomer Leo Woodall was announced to be joining the series as a "magnetic guest."
Meanwhile Divergent's Theo James was announced as a new addition to season 2, along with The Bold Type's Meghann Fahy. According to Deadline, she'll be playing Daphne Babcock, who is vacationing with her husband Cameron (James) and another couple. Exciting!
When was The White Lotus season 2 confirmed?
Announcing the follow-on series in August 2021, HBO said: “The next chapter of The White Lotus leaves Hawaii behind and follows a different group of vacationers as they jet to another White Lotus property and settle in temporarily amongst its inhabitants.”
What could happen in The White Lotus season 2?
We now know The White Lotus season 2 will join a whole host of new guests at another branch of the hotel in Sicily. This was previously teased by the show's creator, who told Entertainment Weekly in 2021, "It would have to be a different hotel, like, say, ‘The White Lotus: San Tropez’ or something," or even White Lotus: Kyoto, “which would be fun too, because we could get into culture clash ideas and stuff like that.”
In June 2022, Jennifer Coolidge addede, "I do think people will like [season 2], based on the scenes that I've witnessed of other people. I think people are really going to be riveted."
When will The White Lotus season 2 be released?
Good news, guys! The White Lotus season two is coming at the end of October 2022: on 30th October to be precise.
Season one came out in July 2021, and was renewed for a second season a month later in August. Its creators quickly revealed the follow up would be moving to another White Lotus property in Sicily, filmed in Taormina, but no news has been revealed about whether production has wrapped yet.
