It’s been a while, but the Jaguars are one of the best bets for Week 5 survivor pools

At the start of the 2022 season, anyone who plays in a knockout/survivor NFL pool would have quickly admitted they’d pick the Buffalo Bills at some point in the coming months.

The same can’t be said about the Jacksonville Jaguars, but as we head into Week 5 of the season, Jacksonville has a 2-2 record and is atop the AFC South.

Both teams a popular pick this week for writers who offer advice on survivor pools.

They see these are the top teams to go with this week: Bills (against Steelers), Jaguars (against Texans), Vikings (against Bears), Packers (against Giants) and Buccaneers (against Falcons).

Here is a closer look.

Buffalo is the best bet, says the Action Network’s BIlly Ward. This is a snippet from his story: “The Bills are fairly clearly the best pick on the board this week. They’re 14-point favorites, on a week when no other team has a double-digit spread. Fortunately, most survivor pool players haven’t used them yet, making this an obvious situation.”

Jacksonville, Buffalo and Tampa Bay are the top three from The Lines’ Mo Nuwwarah. He wrote this about the Jaguars: “As for the rest of the layup options, the Jaguars stand out as having clearly less value than the other teams down the road. It’s probably either now or use them against the Giants at home in two weeks. Fading (Texans quarterback) Davis Mills on the road has been a clear recipe for success.”

The Bills, Vikings and Jaguars are among the top choices from the Athletic’s Derek Tate. This is part of what he wrote about Buffalo: “To be fair, I believe Kenny Pickett gives the Pittsburgh Steelers a better chance to win than Mitchel Trubisky, but there will be rookie mistakes made by the Pitt Panther product against a Bills defense that shutout the explosive Baltimore Ravens offense in the second half of their 23-20 win over the Ravens.”

Jacksonville is the pick from Yahoo Sports’ Greg Brainos. Here is an excerpt from his story: “(Jaguars coach Doug) Pederson’s team is averaging a full eight points per game more than the Texans and giving up 6.5 fewer points per outing. These teams already have two common opponents after four weeks, with Houston tying Indianapolis 20-20 and losing 34-24 to the Chargers. Jacksonville blanked the Colts 24-0 and destroyed the Chargers 38-10 in Los Angeles.”

Buffalo and Green Bay are seen as the safest choices from David Fucillo of DraftKings Nation. This is a snippet from his story: “The Bills are coming off a big comeback win, and while a letdown is possible, they’re facing a bad Steelers squad sending out a rookie who is going to be inconsistent at best. Meanwhile, the Packers face the Giants in London with New York dealing with considerable uncertainty at the quarterback position.”

The Bills are the best bet from the Sporting News. It wrote: “The trade-off with Buffalo is future value. We currently project the Bills as the biggest favorite in five future weeks, starting in Week 9. If at least a third of pool entries are using them this week, that means they could be less popular and higher-value plays in some of those upcoming weeks. “
