There's no doubt that 2020 was an unprecedented year in many industries, including Hollywood. Thankfully, there were still dozens of TV shows to keep us entertained that have been recognized both by critics and television enthusiasts alike, many of which are currently available to stream from the comfort of our own homes.

When are the 2021 Golden Globes?

On Feb. 28, millions will be tuning in to watch the 2021 Golden Globe Awards. The prestigious awards show will be handing out awards for Best Drama, Musical/Comedy and Limited Series, as well as honouring the leading and supporting actors.

Netflix's royal drama "The Crown" led the television slate with six nominations, including Best Drama Series, Olivia Colman for Best Actress, Josh O'Connor for Best Actor and Helena Bonham Carter for Best Supporting Actress. Season four continues telling the story of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II (Colman) and her family, showcasing the early relationship between Prince Charles (O'Connor) and Lady Diana Spencer (Emma Corrin).

Crime drama series "Ozark" earned multiple nominations, including Best Drama Series, Jason Bateman for Best Actor, Laura Linney for Best Actress and Julia Garner for Best Supporting Actress. The series follows dysfunctional couple Marty (Bateman) and his wife Wendy (Linney) as they get into hot water with a cartel dealing with money laundering and murder.

Ryan Murphy's "Ratched" follows the origin story of asylum nurse Mildred Ratched (Sarah Paulson) in 1947 as she arrives at a psychiatric hospital in Northern California. However, there's a dark side to her that gets explored further over the course of eight episodes. The series earned a nomination for Best Drama, Paulson for Best Actress and Cynthia Nixon for Best Supporting Actress.

The Queen's Gambit

This miniseries based on Walter Tevis' 1983 novel of the same name, was a popular one in many households as it earned a place in the Top 10 chart on Netflix. The coming-of-age story follows the rise of chess prodigy and orphan Beth Harmon (Anya Taylor-Joy), who also happens to struggle with addiction. The show not only earned Best Limited Series, but also earned Taylor-Joy a nod for Best Actress.

Emily in Paris

"Emily in Paris" became an internet sensation immediately after it launched on the streaming platform, and follows a young marketing executive named Emily (Lily Collins) who navigates her new job and life in Paris. The series is nominated for Best Comedy and Collins earned a Best Actress nomination.

A young Jewish woman named Esther Shapiro (Shira Haas) flees from her arranged marriage in Brooklyn to Berlin, where she is taken in by a group of musicians — until her past catches up to her. The German-American drama series was also nominated for Best Limited Series and Haas for Best Actress.

Created and directed by Steve McQueen, "Small Axe" is a British anthology of five films, which tell distinct stories about the real-life experiences of West Indian immigrants in London throughout the 1960s to the 1980s. It is nominated for Best Limited Series, and John Boyega earned a Best Supporting Actor nod.

The Great

This historical satire takes a fictionalized approach to showcasing the comedic rise of famed Prussian empress Catherine the Great (Elle Fanning) and her marriage to Peter III of Russia (Nicholas Hoult). The series is nominated for Best Comedy, Fanning for Best Actress and Hoult for Best Actor.

Best HBO Max/Crave shows to watch

This series follows flight attendant Cassandra Bowden (Kayley Cuoco), whose life gets messy when she wakes up in a hotel room beside a dead man. She immediately escapes and tries to piece together her night, which involved a lot of drinking. Not only did this series earn a Best Comedy nomination, but Cuoco earned her first Golden Globe nod after 30 years in the business.

Lovecraft Country

Nominated for Best Drama, "Lovecraft Country" is set in the 1950s and follows Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors) as he teams up with his friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett) and his Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) to embark on a road trip across America in search of his missing father (Michael Kenneth Williams). The series explores and addresses the many forms of racism present in the United States.

The Undoing

Based on the 2014 novel "You Should Have Known" by Jean Hanff Korelitz, the limited series follows wealthy New York couple Grace and Jonathan Fraser, played by Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant. When a new mother at their son's school is murdered, Jonathan is deemed a suspect and Grace's life unravels as secrets are exposed. The show earned nods for Best Television Limited Series, Best Actor (Grant) and Best Actress (Kidman).

Best Disney+ series to watch

The Mandalorian

Nominated for Best Drama series, "The Mandalorian" is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. This is the story of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far, and season 2 focuses on the search for Baby Yoda's homeworld.

Small-time American football coach Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) is hired to coach a struggling professional soccer team in England, despite having no experience coaching. The series picked up a nomination for Best Comedy, and Sudeikis for Best Actor.

Best CBC Gem series to watch

This Irish drama series is based on Sally Rooney’s New York Times best-selling novel of the same name, following the complicated relationship of Marianne (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and Connell (Paul Mescal). The series earned nods for Best Limited Series and Edgar-Jones for Best Actress.

Schitt's Creek

This Canadian television sitcom created by father and son duo Eugene and Dan Levy has become an award season darling after sweeping the Emmys last fall. The series revolves around the Rose family, who find themselves broke and are forced to leave their pampered lives to rebuild their empire. The series earned five nominations, including Best Comedy, Eugene Levy for Best Actor, Catherine O'Hara for Best Actress, and Annie Murphy and Dan Levy in the supporting actors categories.
