Here’s where to find Texas’ breakfast of champions: brisket and huevos rancheros
BBQ on the Brazos has brisket for breakfast
Hey, Bud! I miss the brisket breakfast at Derak Allan’s. Where do we go early for brisket?
—David, Fort Worth
Hurtado Barbecue will resume breakfast when it opens a branch at the former location of Derek Allan’s, 1116 Eighth Ave. But for now, the best breakfast plate in Texas might be brisket and huevos rancheros at BBQ on the Brazos, 9001 U.S. 377 East in Cresson in Hood County. (Plan to go before Aug. 13 or when it reopens Aug. 23 after vacation.)
Spiral Diner restaurant to open in Arlington
Hey, Bud! You wrote about Spiral Diner’s new upscale cousin in Fort Worth. But what about the new Spiral in Arlington? It’s on Instagram.
—Message to instagram.com/budkennedy
Nationally noted vegan favorite Spiral Diner served up confusing plates lately. Spiral sent a huge announcement about closing in Dallas but only quietly hinted on Instagram at the new Arlington restaurant, 400 E. Front St.
Plans are barely beginning for the new Spiral, a good for Urban Union near downtown Arlington. Spiral is also opening a new fine-dining restaurant in Fort Worth, Maiden Fine Plants & Spirits, 1215 Sixth Ave.
BB’s Burger Shack to open on Beach Street
Hey, Bud! BurgerFi closed on North Beach Street, and it says a new smash burger and shake stand is opening. Which one?
—Still Looking for the Beach
BB’s Burger Shack, a local restaurant owned by a Bryan Beaver, is registered to open at that site, 6650 N. Beach St. Florida-based BurgerFI was a pioneer in using facial recognition to “greet” customers and know your regular order, but it may have been ahead of its time on that. The nearest location remaining is in Lubbock.
