Where is Six Rivers Lightning Complex Fire burning in California? Here’s what we know so far

Another fire is blazing through Northern California this week, burning more than 19,000 acres.

The Six Rivers Lightning Complex Fire has been active for nine days and is 17% contained, as of Monday, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. So far, one structure has been destroyed, one damaged and two people have confirmed injuries.

The cause is still under investigation.

Where is the Six Rivers fire?

The fire is active in Humboldt and Trinity counties, in the Willow Creek area, according to Cal Fire.

An evacuation order has been issued south of Willow Creek, roughly 260 miles northwest of downtown Sacramento.

According to Sacramento County Spare the Air, pollution from the smoke has contributed to the poor air quality in the region.

The complex fire is made up of 12 individual fire incidents.

Are there road closures?

Cal Fire reported that State Routes 299 and 96 are open but could be affected by the fire. The agency advises people to check CalTrans for updates on highway closures.

Some roads are also closed, according to Cal Fire, and can only be used to exit:

  • Campbell Ridge Road from Salyer Heights to Seeley McIntosh Road

  • Patterson Road at Raga Hills Road

  • Friday Ridge Road at Route 6

  • Titlow Hill Road (Route 1) at Horse Mountain Botanical Area

  • Horse Linto Creek Road at Saddle Lane

  • Country Club Road at Kimtu Bridge

  • Friday Ridge Road at Hwy 299

McKinney Fire updates

Earlier in August, the McKinney Fire was running through Northern California, in Siskiyou County, southwest of the Klamath River.

It’s been active for 16 days and has burned more than 60,000 acres, according to Cal Fire. It is at 95% containment as of Monday.

The McKinney Fire has damaged 11 structures, destroyed 185, injured 11 people and killed four. Among the four fatalities are residents of the Klamath River community, including a forest service lookout worker.
