Where did the ‘I bring a sort of vibe’ meme come from?

A meme that captures people’s rebellious nature traversed the internet from Twitter to TikTok to Instagram to Facebook.

The “I bring a sort of X vibe to the Y” meme took over Instagram in 2022. But the hilarious inside joke all started with a comedian’s viral tweet from a year earlier. Here’s why it’s cracking people on social media.

“I bring a sort of ‘we should all quit’ vibe to the workplace that bosses don’t really like,” comedian Marcia Belsky tweeted on April 5, 2021.

The tweet has received over 387,000 likes and 43,000 retweets since it was posted. Almost exactly a year later, on April 12, 2022, TikTok user @renegadeshow used Belsky’s tweet as his caption for a video.

In the clip, he’s smugly standing on his porch, looking out toward the trees and sky surrounding him.

The meme made its way onto Instagram when the user @haute_priest took a screenshot of @renegadeshow’s video.

Facebook user The Country Clairvoyant officially turned the screenshot into a meme by switching the original phrase to “I bring a sort of ‘may all beings be free’ vibe to the world that people in authority don’t really like.”

Now the meme largely exists on Instagram, where the old caption is sloppily blocked off and replaced by new phrases.

“I bring a sort of ‘crying in public’ vibe to the party that people don’t really like,” @cyb.initiative joked on Insta.
