Where are the best neighborhoods to trick or treat in Charlotte?

As a child of Olde Williamsburg neighborhood in Fort Mill, I was never allowed to trick or treat outside of my street. Some of my friends were more strategic, with their parents driving them to a neighborhood at dusk on Halloween and parking while they collected candy.

In hindsight, I realize that it may have been because I lived in one of those trick-or-treat destination neighborhoods already. There were tons of houses on my street alone and by the end of the night, my plastic pumpkin was always filled to the brim with the good stuff.

Mom inspected it all before we were allowed to eat anything — of course. (My siblings and I grew up in the razor-blade-in-candy era.)

Anything unwrapped (like an apple) came with a line of questioning about which house it came from. It was always a house we knew, so it was always deemed safe to eat — and promptly never eaten. We had Reese’s Pieces, Milky Ways, Smarties and Tootsie Roll pops — so we ate anything but fresh fruit.
