Amidst the raging uproar on BJP MP Sadhvi Pragya calling Nathuram Godse a patriot on Wednesday, a 2013 editorial of the Shiv Sena's mouthpiece 'Saamna' is doing the rounds on social media. In the editorial, Uddhav Thackeray, then editor-in-chief of 'Saamna', had also hailed Godse - the assasin of Mahatama Gandhi - as a ‘staunch patriot’.
"Pandit Nathuram Godse had not come from Italy, instead was a staunch patriot. His blood was boiling over Hindustan being divided and the killing of lakhs of Hindus during the partition," said the editorial.
The Congress has lambasted Pragya for her despicable comment during the Lok Sabha proceedings. The fomrer Congress president Rahul Gandhi calls it "a sad day in the history of Indian Parliament." Today, the opposition walked out of the Parliament in protest after Speaker Om Birla said there will be no debate on Thakur’s remarks.
Interestingly, the same Congress is rewarding Uddhav by helping him become the chief minister of Maharashtra. After a long-drawn political drama, Shiv Sena, Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have agreed to form the coalition government with Uddhav as the CM.
The BJP spokesperson, GVL Narasimha Rao, has questioned the hypocrisy of Congress in this matter. He tagged Mr Gandhi on Twitter and wrote, "Stop being a hypocrite @RahulGandhi. You are making someone with identical views (as Pragya Thakur) Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Udhav Thackeray,'Editor-In-Chief' of Saamna wrote that Godse was a Patriot. Is that why you are ashamed to attend swearing-in."

Uddhav is set to take the oath as the CM of Maharashtra, with the support of the Congress, on Thursday.
So, does the Congress endorse Uddhav's view that Godse was a patriot or is it comprosing on ideology to form the coalition government? That's for you, our readers, to decide.
