You've heard of the LBD (AKA Posh Spice's beloved 'little black dress') but, when it comes to summer fashion staples, you really can't go wrong with the MBD, or midi black dress.
Equal parts chic, comfy and practical - it's the perfect 'chuck-on' instant outfit. You can keep it cool and casual by pairing with fashion trainers (I'm a personal fan of Vejas) or add a summer-y spin by swapping out for strappy sandals and chunky gold bling. Alternatively, slip on a pair of mules, add a swipe of red lippy and you're ready for drinks with the gals.
The black midi's versatility is exactly what makes it a wardrobe mainstay. And we're not alone in holding the piece in such high regard. Our Instagram feeds have been awash with styles from brands like Sleeper and Cecilie Bahnsen - characterised with three of this season's biggest trends: oh-so-extra puffy sleeves, shirred detailing and square necklines.
And, while we love the cult-status designs (with countless 'grams saved to our camera roll), not everyone can afford to drop £200+ on a midi dress. But what if we told you that you didn't have to drop a load of ££ to get the look this summer? What if you could spend just £27? Yup, I was online shopping this week (as ya do), and came across this beaut alternative from New Look:
Square-neck? Check. Puffy sleeves? Check. Shirred top? Check aaaand check. It really has all of the key features, and for £27.99. Not bad, not bad at all.
As is the case with ordering online, I was a liiittle sceptical as to the quality of the fabric but, to my pleasant surprise, when the dress arrived it felt super soft and comfy (non-negotiables for spending hot afternoons lounging in the park). #Winning, right?
The stock levels for this style are still looking good but, chances are, it's gonna sell out pretty soon (as high street gems rarely last long) so you might wanna add yours to cart while you still can.
