Welcome back, Enchirito: Taco Bell fans vote to bring back menu item that debuted in 1970

Taco Bell fans – in a vote to bring back one discontinued item – opted for sauciness.

The fast-food chain let users of the Taco Bell app vote Sept. 27-Oct. 6 for the limited-time return of either the Double Decker Taco or the Enchirito.

Perhaps the result was a case of distance making the appetite growing fonder. The Enchirito, a soft flour tortilla filled with seasoned beef, beans and diced onions covered with red sauce and cheese, was introduced in 1970 but had been removed from the menu in 2013.

It was going up against the Double Decker Taco, which first hit the menu in 1995. A traditional crunchy taco enveloped by a flour tortilla layered with beans, the Double Decker Taco became a permanent menu item in June 2006 and was removed 13 years later.

According to the Taco Bell app, 62% of voters wanted the return of the Enchirito.

With the results in, Taco Bell said the Enchirito will return for a limited time starting Nov. 17.
