A woman narrowly survived being crushed when a giant boulder smashed through her house in Hawaii, leaving a trail of destruction behind it.

Security camera footage captured the moment the five foot-tall spherical boulder came crashing through a cinderblock wall, nearly hitting Caroline Sasaki as she walked along a corridor.

Officials said the boulder smashed through the building’s outer wall, the living room and then another wall before finally coming to a halt in a bedroom.

“All I heard was the boom when the glass cracked from the sliding door, so I backed up,” said Ms Sasaki, 65.

None of the four people inside the house, in Honolulu, were hurt when the boulder rolled in just before midnight on Saturday, but a nearby car was damaged, local news reported.

“I haven’t watched the video, but they said if I took one more step, I probably wouldn’t be here,” she told local broadcaster KITV 4.

It was unclear what had caused the boulder to roll down the nearby hill, but the incident reportedly came after days of heavy rain.

“There was so much adrenaline flowing that it just brought me down for a while,” Craig Tomita, a neighbour, told Hawaii News Now.

Ms Sasaki and her family had only been living in the property for about a week before the boulder came crashing into their home.

The boulder was reportedly still inside the house on Monday.
