Watch: Superintendent of Blue Ridge schools misses landing in closure announcement video

The superintendent of Blue Ridge school district in Collin County wanted to announce a snow day in a fun way Tuesday, but ended up slipping and soaring on camera instead.

Matt Kimball, superintendent of Blue Ridge ISD, posted the video of his first attempt at the announcement on Facebook. In it, he starts off by running around a school track and then tries to slide to a stop to declare classes canceled.

Instead, Kimball ended up staggering and slipping on the ice and knocking his phone over.

“Schools support taking risks and making mistakes,” Kimball said in the post containing the video. “Some of the best learning comes through our mistakes. I guess I should lead the charge. My first attempt wasn’t very successful today!!”

The video came as school districts across North Texas announced closures (though most of them in simple social media posts and emails and not exhibiting such enthusiasm) amid a winter storm that has swept over the region.

Below freezing temperatures, icy roads and precipitation ranging from freezing rain and sleet to snow made trips to campuses dangerous.

The storm was expected to let up Thursday, with temperatures continuing to warm up Friday and into the weekend, but the National Weather Service in Fort Worth on Thursday still encouraged exercising caution and staying home as much as possible.
