Watch Steven Spielberg and Chris Pratt Talk 'Jurassic' Movies Then and Now

As we move closer to the June release of Jurassic World, the cast and Steven Spielberg take a moment to reflect on the 1993 dino-sized blockbuster that started it all in the above exclusive featurette.

Like the millions who saw the film the groundbreaking first time around, Jurassic World star Chris Pratt, who was around 13 when the original came out, was awed by the spectacle. “I just walked away having my mind blown,” says the actor, now 35. “It’s like cinema was reinvented right in front of me.”

Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow was not much older than Pratt when he saw the Spielberg-helmed original. Trevorrow recalls making a pilgrimage to the local theater on the last day of school to see the movie.

Spielberg himself says that World is “almost like seeing Jurassic Park come true,” referencing the new installment’s premise that, 20 years later, the island has been built up into a fully functioning, revenue-generating theme park.

“It goes down an original road, which none of the other movies dared to travel,” says Spielberg, who serves as executive producer on the upcoming sequel.

Perhaps that’s Spielberg’s way of saying he agrees with Trevorrow’s creative choice to essentially ignore the two lesser-performing Jurassic sequels and let his film continue the legacy of the inaugural Park.

We’ll see if history repeats itself when Jurassic World opens on June 12.
