Watch Lady Gaga power through national anthem at Joe Biden's inauguration

Lady Gaga's powerhouse voice helped ring in a new era of democracy with a heavenly rendition of the national anthem.

Gaga took the stage Wednesday during the inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris — the first woman to hold that position — with the Oscar-winning Chromatica singer-songwriter performing "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the Capitol as the nation watched, exactly two weeks after supporters of Donald Trump mounted a deadly insurrection at the same location.

Gaga's vocals soared through the song as she wore a lavish gown, including a black long-sleeved top with a cascading red train. She briefly spoke with Biden and Harris prior to grabbing a gold microphone to sing the anthem.

"Singing our National Anthem for the American People is my honor. I will sing during a ceremony, a transition, a moment of change — between POTUS 45 and 46. For me, this has great meaning," Gaga tweeted shortly before the performance. "My intention is to acknowledge our past, be healing for our present, and passionate for a future where we work together lovingly. I will sing to the hearts of all people who live on this land."

Prior to Wednesday's performance, Gaga also performed a critically lauded rendition of the national anthem at Super Bowl 50 in 2016, prior to headlining the big game's halftime show one year later. On the 2020 election trail, Biden — a longtime friend of Gaga's, who previously introduced her performance of "Til It Happens to You" at the 2016 Oscars and worked with her on his It's On Us campaign against sexual assault — enlisted Gaga to perform at his final campaign rally in Pittsburgh on Nov. 2, where she sang several tunes in support of the politician.

Following Gaga's performance, Jennifer Lopez — wearing a crisp white pantsuit — sang "This Land Is Your Land," offered a message to viewers in Spanish, and incorporated lyrics from her hit single "Let's Get Loud" to close out the song.
