Watch this hungry Tahoe bear take down its kill — an inflatable Rudolph lawn decoration

A bear must have been deliriously hungry, confused or perhaps just looking to play when he hunted an inflatable Rudolph lawn decoration in South Lake Tahoe.

The attack was captured on the Rudolph owner’s Ring camera. The bear takes an initial swipe at Rudolph’s hindquarters and seems to startle when the decoration buckles at the knees and ankles. The curious bear continues attacking its prey, even attempting to drag it off before losing interest and scampering from the yard.

Dave Lester posted the video and photos on Facebook.

“Sad news, woke up this morning to Rudolph laying on the ground unresponsive,” he wrote. “No amount of CPR or duct tape could revive him.”

Lester posted photos of what was left of Rudolph, including a selfie where he made a frowny face with Rudolph behind him.

“Upon reviewing my Ring cam video, it appears that a hungry Tahoe Bear was not in the Christmas spirit. RIP Rudolph. He was only 2 years old,” Lester wrote.

Lester appears to be particularly fond of the inflatable holiday decorations. In another post, he asked his Facebook friends if it’s “weird that from Thanksgiving to New Year’s I drive around with an inflatable waving Santa in my passenger seat?????”

And it doesn’t appear to be the first time Lester has had run-ins with Tahoe bears roaming his property. He posted another video from September 2019 of a burly looking bear meandering through his front yard.

“Big boy came for a visit again last night,” Lester wrote, adding the hashtag #TahoeBears to the video. “Right between my front door and truck.”
