Harry Kane proved himself a bit of a sporting all-rounder on Monday evening as he and Tottenham team-mate Matt Doherty showed off their cricketing prowess in a six-hitting challenge at Lord's.

Ahead of London Spirit's Hundred battle with Manchester Originals, Kane and Doherty were tasked with clearing the ropes against the friendly lobs of Ian Ward, and both showed they know how to wield the willow.

Ahead of the contest, Kane revealed his predigree was limited to a bit of indoor quick cricket in the Spurs gym, but he cleary has a sportsman's eye for hitting a ball, be it with hand or foot.

When asked who the best cricketer in the Spurs dressing room is, Kane said: "Harty (Joe Hart, who now plays for Celtic) was the best when we were playing a lot. Ben Davies is pretty good, consistent with bat and ball so I'd throw him in there. Matt (Doherty) thinks he's the best."

When Doherty was asked for his cricketing pedigree, he added: "I just kind of grew up playing cricket in the house with my brother. I don't know what it was but ever since I came over to England I just fell in love with the game. I love all forms of cricket, be it Test match, IPL, the one-day stuff... I'll watch it."

After several attempts to clear the rope, with Kane finding the boundary but on the bounce, it finished honours even.

Watching on, Nasser Hussain was asked to critique the techniques (watch video below). "He (Kane) is obviously a good golfer," said the former England skipper. "He's got a bit of golf in there and he (Doherty) has played a lot of cricket with the way he hit 'em. They can obviously both transfer skills from one sport to the other."

During the game itself, Jordan Thompson produced his best Hundred bowling figures as Spirit trounced the Originals by 52 runs to register a second successive win and go top of the table.

Seamer Thompson, who took two wickets on his tournament debut at the Oval last week, followed that up with a remarkable 4-21 from 20 balls to steamroller the Originals for just 108 at Lord's.

He was ably backed up by the rest of the Spirit attack to ensure a second successive defeat for the Manchester outfit as the home side's total of 160-6, with Zak Crawley top-scoring on 41 from 34, proved to be more than enough.

The result continued a notable turnaround for Eoin Morgan's team, who have already recorded more victories than they managed when finishing bottom in last year's inaugural tournament.
