Watch 'Dark Places' Trailer: Charlize Theron Tracks Her Family's Killer

Attention, Gone Girl fans: another Gillian Flynn novel is coming soon to the big screen.

Here is your exclusive first look at the trailer for Dark Places (currently No. 9 on The New York Times best-seller list), which offers a look at Charlize Theron as protagonist Libby Day, the ostensible lone survivor of a family massacre that happened in rural Kansas.

In true Flynn fashion, things are never as they seem: Libby has always believed her “freak” brother killed her mother and sisters. But more than 25 years after the horrific crime, she might have a change of heart — thanks to Lyle (Nicholas Hoult), a member of a fanatical secret society bent on solving notorious murders. After getting a fresh perspective from the “Kill Club,” Libby seeks information from her estranged sibling (Corey Stoll), who’s been behind bars for decades.

Was it a satanic cult that killed Libby’s family? Her brother? Or some unknown murderer?

We’ll find out when Dark Places, also starring Chloë Grace Moretz, Christina Hendricks, Drea de Matteo, and Tye Sheridan, opens in theaters nationwide Aug. 7 (and it’s available today, exclusively, on DirecTV).
