Watch Ben Platt reprise his role as Evan Hansen in 'Dear Evan Hansen' trailer

Dear Evan Hansen fans, the first trailer for "Dear Evan Hansen" dropped Tuesday and we're not crying, you're crying.

The trailer is set to the tune of star Ben Platt's "You Will Be Found" and opens with the titular character (played by Platt) typing one of many letters to himself, starting with the lines "Dear Evan Hansen, today is going to be an amazing day and here's why."

The movie, adapted from the Tony-award winning Broadway musical, follows socially anxious, high-schooler Evan Hansen who writes letters to himself to cope. He makes a friend in Connor Murphy (Colton Ryan) who ends up finding and taking one of Hansen's letters. After Murphy commits suicide, his parents Larry (Danny Pino) and Cynthia Murphy (Amy Adams) find Hansen's letter, assuming their son Connor wrote it to him and the two are friends. Hansen goes along with the lie and ends up creating a "mess."

"I was trying to help," Platt's character says in the trailer.

Platt also played Hansen in the Broadway musical, which earned him a Tony for best leading actor in a musical. The trailer also features Amandla Stenberg, Kaitlyn Dever, Julianne Moore and Nik Dodani.

"Dear Evan Hansen," which is directed by "The Perks of Being A Wallflower" director Stephen Chbosky, is set to hit theaters Sept. 24.

Last year, Platt and his "Dear Evan Hansen" successor Noah Galvin revealed they're dating.

"Ben and I are dating. I asked him this morning, I was like, are we allowed to talk about this?" Galvin said on an episode of the "Little Known Facts" podcast. "And he's like, 'Don't go into our nitty gritty, but yeah, people can know.' It's still relatively new."

The ex-Evan Hansens aren't the first couple to come out of the Broadway show: Taylor Trensch and Ben Levi Ross, who each held the starring role on Broadway and on tour, respectively, have been dating since 2017.

"It's so goddamn incestuous," Galvin said of the show. "But it also makes sense, because we all went through the war together. We all feel very connected."
