Andy Murray and Cameron Norrie face off in a battle of the Brits today in Cincinnati.

Murray won this tournament back in 2008 and 2011, but he goes into this match as the underdog as he continues to search for some consistency following his injury battles.

It was a typically gritty performance to battle past Stan Wawrinka in the first round, winning in three sets after almost three hours, as he looks for a run of form that could get him seeded for the US Open later this month.

Consistency has not been a problem for Norrie in the past 12 months, reaching the semi-finals at Wimbledon earlier this summer for his best Grand Slam result.

It promises to be a tough test for Murray, but one that will give him a good indication of where his game is ahead of the trip to New York.

“I would like my tennis to be better at times, because I’m still convinced that it can be better than where it is right now,” Murray said.

“It’s not been easy these last few years to stay fit and healthy and play enough tennis.

“Right now, I’m having to play and compete to try and maintain ranking and hopefully get seeded in the events, get into more tournaments, not have to rely on wildcards.”

Of his fellow Brit, Murray said: “Flat on the backhand, heavy topspin on the forehand. We have spent a little bit of time on the court together, so there won’t be many surprises out there for me.”
