Vote for The State’s high school spring sports Athlete of the Week (3.20.23)

It’s time to vote for The State’s high school spring sports Athletes of the Week from Midlands-area high schools and games played March 13-18. Voting ends Friday at noon. The winner will be announced on Lou Bezjak’s Twitter page.

If you would like a player to be considered, a coach must e-mail lbezjak@thestate.com by noon on Mondays.

The nominees are listed below. Please note that these polls are not scientific and are meant to be just for fun.

Kaylin Antley, Sr., Chapin lacrosse: The senior had two goals and 13 assists in the Eagles’ two wins last week.

Alanna Colbert, Sr., River Bluff soccer: Senior forward had three goals in Gators’ wins over Lexington and Academic Magnet last week.

Abby Gates, Sr., White Knoll softball: Senior first baseman was 8-for-12 with 3 home runs, 4 doubles and 10 RBIs in Wolves’ four games last week.

Reagan Haggard, Fr., Chapin softball: Freshman first baseman was 4-for-7 with a homer and 5 RBIs in the Eagles’ two games this week.

Kinlee Mozley, Jr., Gilbert soccer: Junior had three goals and two assists in Indians’ two wins last week.

Reece Pickett, Jr., Lugoff-Elgin softball: Junior was 3-for-4 with two homers, 4 RBIs and also pitched six innings in the Demons’ 11-1 win over White Knoll in the team’s lone game last week.

Karly Shelton, Jr., Lexington softball: South Carolina commit Karly Shelton was 5-for-8 with 2 home runs and 7 RBIs. She also struck out four in two innings at pitcher.

Arabella Yaroszewski, So., Northside Christian softball: The sophomore pitcher gave up 2 hits and went 4-for-4 at the plate with 6 RBIs in a win over Richard Winn.

Nigel Ancrum, Spring Valley track and field: Ancrum won the 200 meters with a school-record 20.93 and also won the 100 at the Clash of the Carolinas on Saturday.

Wyatt Barrett, Hammond baseball: Barrett struck out 12 and allowed just four hits over six innings in win over Ben Lippen. He also was 2-for-7 with an RBI at the plate in two games.

Jamarion Charley, Keenan baseball: Raiders’ pitcher allowed just one hit and struck out nine in win over Eau Claire.

Michael Chudd, Dutch Fork lacrosse: Senior had seven goals in Silver Foxes’ three matches last week.

Tyson Churchwell, Sr., Swansea baseball: Senior hit .571 with four RBIs in the Tigers three games last week.

Wright Gibson, Jr. AC Flora lacrosse: Junior had eight goals and two assists in Falcons’ three games last week.

Zachary Hart, Sr., Gray Collegiate soccer: Senior midfielder had four goals and three assists in War Eagles’ two matches last week.

Beau Hollins, Jr., River Bluff baseball: Junior South Carolina commit was 4-for-8 with 3 home runs, seven RBIs and picked up a win in his only start last week. For the season, Hollins is hitting .520 with 9 HRs and 17 RBIs in eight games this season.

Jack Painter, Jr., Dreher baseball: Junior infielder had four hits, including a homer and drove in five runs last week for the Blue Devils.

Franklin Spires, Sr., Lexington soccer: Senior midfielder had five goals in the Wildcats’ three wins last week.
