Vote for The State’s high school spring sports Athletes of the Week (3.27.23)

It’s time to vote for The State’s high school spring sports Athletes of the Week from Midlands-area high schools and games played March 20-25. Voting ends Friday at noon. The winner will be announced on Lou Bezjak’s Twitter page.

If you would like a player to be considered, email lbezjak@thestate.com by noon Mondays.

The nominees are listed below. Please note that these polls are not scientific and are meant to be just for fun.

Miley Baty, Gilbert softball: Baty hit .750 with two doubles, three runs and two RBIs in region wins over Swansea.

Grace Beachem, Hammond softball: Junior was 2-0 as a pitcher with 17 strikeouts and was 6-for-7 at the plate with three triples, two doubles and six RBIs.

Precious Boss, Irmo softball: Georgia commit was 4-for-4 with three doubles, a grand slam and eight RBIs last week for Yellow Jackets.

Alanna Colbert, River Bluff soccer: Senior had two, goals including the game-winner in the 1-0 win over Chapin, last week.

Ava Claire Collins, Chapin lacrosse: Collins had 14 goals and four assists in the Eagles’ three matches last week.

Aaliyah Haney, Camden softball: Haney went 6-for-9 with three RBIs in Bulldogs’ three victories last week.

Lily Jackson, Lugoff-Elgin soccer: Senior had five goals and four assists in Demons’ two matches last week.

Maddie McMillion, Chapin softball: McMillion was 5-for-7 with six RBIs in Eagles’ four games last week.

Brianna Pinasco, Hammond soccer: South Carolina signee had six goals and two assists in the Skyhawks’ two matches last week.

Lexie Stout, Lugoff-Elgin softball: Junior was 6-for-11 with a homer and 5 RBIs in the Demons’ three games last week.

Livi Warren, Lexington softball: Outfielder was 8-for-11 with five doubles, six runs scored and three RBIs in Wildcats’ three wins last week.

William Andrews, Ben Lippen baseball: Left-handed pitcher had a complete-game victory over Trinity Collegiate, allowing no earned runs on six hits while striking out 10.

Trey Briscoe, Swansea baseball: Freshman allowed two runs, six hits, struck out seven in 6.2 innings against Edisto.

Grayson Crim, Northside Christian baseball: Crim struck out 11, allowed just one hit and was 2-for-4 with two stolen bases in win over Palmetto Christian.

Micah Elliott, Dreher baseball: Elliott went 8-for-11 with a homer and 8 RBIs in Blue Devils’ three games last week.

Tyler Floyd, Lexington baseball: College of Charleston signee was 6-for-10 with a homer and 3 RBIs and also picked up a win on the mound in three-game series against River Bluff.

Colton Jones, Spring Valley baseball: Anderson University signee allowed an earned run, three hits, struck out seven over 5.2 innings pitched in the win over No. 5 Clover.

Jace Martin, Mid-Carolina baseball: Martin struck out nine, allowed two hits, no runs over six innings in the win over Chapin.

Walker Mitchell, River Bluff baseball: Coastal Carolina signee went 8-for-12 with a homer and 8 RBIs in a three-game series against Lexington.

Alex Rivera, Brookland-Cayce soccer: Senior had five goals and two assists as Bearcats went 3-0 last week.

Juel Rivers, Swansea soccer: The freshman had five goals and an assist in the Tigers’ two matches last week.

Eldin Sanchez, Lugoff-Elgin soccer: Junior had nine goals, two assists and a save as Demons won all three matches last week.

Zach Snead, AC Flora baseball: Falcons infielder went 5-for-11 with two doubles, two RBIs, two stolen bases, hit .571 with runners in scoring position as Falcons went 4-0 last week.

Tanner Staton, Brookland-Cayce baseball: Senior outfielder went 5-for-7 with a homer and six RBI in Bearcats’ three wins last week.
