Winner of The News Tribune’s Athlete of the Week (May 16 to 21)

Voting is now closed for The News Tribune’s high school Athlete of the Week poll (May 16 to 21). Thanks to everyone who voted and supported local student-athletes.

Peter Radovich, Bellarmine Prep soccer

He scored goals in both of Bellarmine’s 4A state tournament wins last week, sending the Lions through to the tournament semifinals.

Taber Fast, Olympia baseball: Senior Texas Tech commit threw a two-hit, complete-game shutout in a 6-0 win over Issaquah in the 4A state tournament quarterfinals.

Ava Miranda, Peninsula softball: Blasted a deep fly double, driving in two runs in the fifth inning of Peninsula’s 5-2 bidistrict championship game win over Bonney Lake.

Sarah Wright, Kentwood softball: In the 4A District 3/4 championship game against Skyview, Wright threw a no-hitter, striking out an insane 18 batters in a 6-0 win. At the plate, she hit two home runs to drive in five of Kentwood’s six total runs.

Taryn Takayoshi, Puyallup softball: Went 4-for-4 in Puyallup’s third/fourth place bidistrict win over Olympia.

Jessika Jennings, Yelm softball: Racked up four hits and hit for the cycle in 12-8 bidistrict win over Prairie.

Carissa Frederick, Timberline softball: Hit a grand slam in the first inning of Timberline’s 12-1 bidistrict win over Auburn Mountainview to clinch a berth in the 3A state tournament.

Adam Brooks, Puyallup baseball: Battled back spasms to throw a complete-game shutout in a 6-0 win over Bothell in the opening round of the 4A state tournament.

Jacob Bresnahan, Sumner baseball: Threw six innings of one-run ball in 3-1 win over Kamiakin in the opening round of the 4A state tournament.

Jordan Hanson, Tumwater baseball: Threw 6 2/3 innings, surrendering only one hit and one (unearned) run, striking out 11 batters in 2-1 win over Ephrata in the 2A state tournament quarterfinals.

Jaylen McCabe, Silas track: Won the 100-meters, 200-meters and 110-meter hurdle events at the West Central/Southwest district track meet in Kent.

Jonathan Frazier, Lincoln track: Won the 300-meter hurdles at the West Central/Southwest district track meet in Kent.

Saydi Orange, Kentridge track and field: Raised her mark to 157 feet in the javelin, winning the event at the West Central/Southwest district track meet in Kent.
