Vote for the Charlotte Observer HS football offensive, defensive player of the week

Meet the nominees for this week’s Charlotte Observer offensive and defensive players of the week. Readers can vote as often as they like until Friday, around noon, when the poll will close.

Offensive nominees

Izay Bridges, Shelby: caught five passes for 62 yards and two touchdowns in a 62-28 win over East Gaston. He also had two kickoff returns for a total of 104 yards and another score.

Carter Dowd, Carson: in a 35-20 win over Central Cabarrus, Dowd played every snap on defense and had 30 carries for 230 yards and three touchdowns on offense.

Reid Eighmy, Metrolina Christian: in a 42-38 win over Cabarrus Warriors, Eighmy was 21-of-29 for 418 yards and five touchdowns. He ran for 25 yards.

Tyler Green, Cabarrus Warriors: In a close loss to Metrolina Christian, Green completed 31-of-43 passes for 291 yards and touchdowns. He hit Will Jones eight times for 93 yards and a score. Jones also rushed for 126 yards and a score.

Daylin Lee, Shelby: completed 14-of-17 passes for 262 yards and six touchdowns in a 62-28 win over East Gaston.

Grantt Logan, Providence Day: 16-of-28 for 230 yards and a touchdown in a 25-14 win over Rabun Gap. He ran 17 times for 117 yards and two touchdowns.

Tommy Miller, Metrolina Christian: nine catches for 246 yards and three touchdowns in a 42-38 win over Cabarrus Warriors.

Jae’Mias Morrow, North Rowan: In a 66-28 win over Lexington Saturday, Morrow ran for 121 yards and four touchdowns.

Luke Shaver, North Stanly: 11-of-21 passing for 207 yards and three touchdowns in a 21-18 win over Mount Pleasant. North Stanly only rushed for 56 yards on 24 attempts.

Justin Wheeler, Charlotte Latin: completed 18-of-28 passes for 202 yards and four touchdowns in a 35-0 win over Charlotte Latin. Daniel Haughton caught nine passes for 113 yards and a score.

Defensive nominees

Keyaan Abdul-Rahim, Providence Day: 13 solo tackles, 12 Assists, five tackles for a loss and a sack in a 25-14 win over Rabun Gap. Providence Day can win the league title at home against rival Charlotte Latin Friday.

Mason Avery, West Lincoln: in a 16-14 win over East Burke, Avery had a team-high nine total tackles, tied with teammate Lathon Sain. On offense, Avery ran 26 times for 196 yards and two scores.

Sam Chacon, Statesville: 13 tackles, five tackles for a loss, plus a sack in a 57-14 win over St. Stephens.

Manuel Cordray II, Olympic: Junior defensive end had nine tackles,, two tackles for a loss, two quarterback pressures in a 13-12 loss to Ardrey Kell.

Josh Iseah, Independence: 12 tackles, two sacks, interception in a 26-0 win over Mint Hill rival Rocky River. Teammate Kahlil Hoke had four tackles for losses and the Patriots allowed 96 pass yards, 81 rush and had four sacks and three fourth down stops. It was the Patriots’ second straight shutout.

Tanner Leeson, Mountain Island Charter: Senior defensive lineman had 12 tackles and a sack in a 39-0 win over Carver.

Deems May, Myers Park: 10 tackles, two sacks, multiple quarterback hurries in Friday’s 3-0 loss to South Mecklenburg. May got his first offer, from Gardner-Webb, on Saturday.

Trevin Moyer, Mountain Island Charter: returned three punts for 114 yards and a touchdown in a 39-0 win over Carver. He also had a 47-yard kick return.

Matthew Reddick, South Mecklenburg: five tackle, sack and game-clinching pass breakup in Friday’s 3-0 win over Myers Park.

Ty Thompson, Hopewell: Nine tackles in Friday’s game with North Mecklenburg. Thompson now has a new school-record with 89 tackles for the season.

Amontae White, Statesville: 12 total tackles, two tackles for a loss in a 57-14 win over St. Stephens.
