This week’s Nominees

Lauren Arnold, West Rowan Basketball: The 5-foot-10 junior scored 21 points in an 81-39 win at Lake Norman Charter Jan. 31.

Arnold also scored 23 points in an 89-46 victory over Central Cabarrus Feb. 3 to help West Rowan stay perfect at 21-0.

Daisha Canada, Salisbury Wrestling: The Hornets’ sophomore won the 120-pound title at the NCHSAA Women’s Showcase at Rise Sports’ Complex in Bermuda Run Feb. 4.

Canada was 12-9 overall this season competing against both boys’ and girls’ wrestlers.

Kamora Cannie, Myers Park Basketball: The 5-foot-5 senior scored nine points, had four assists and two steals in just 15 minutes of action to lead Myers Park to an 84-25 win over Palisades Jan. 31.

Cannie followed that up with 21 points, including five three-pointers, to go with seven assists, five rebounds and two steals in a 68-53 victory over A.C. Reynolds Feb. 3.

Myers Park (18-4) has won seven straight games this season.

Cassidy Geddes, Newton Conover Basketball: The 5-foot-7 senior scored 39 points to lead Newton Conover to a 62-20 win at Bandys Feb. 3.

Geddes also scored 24 points to go with five rebounds, six assists and nine steals in a 71-38 victory over West Lincoln Jan. 31.

Geddes, a Willliam & Mary commit, is averaging 21 points, six rebounds, five assists and six steals per game for Newton Conover (17-4) this season.

Jeulenea Khang, Freedom Wrestling: The Patriots’ senior won the 100-pound title at the NCHSAA Women’s State Wrestling Invitational in Greensboro Feb. 4.

Khang, who was 4-0 in the event, was also voted the matches’ most outstanding wrestler.

Khang was 43-6 overall this season.

Kamryn Kitchen, Independence Basketball: The 5-foot-7 sophomore scored 23 points, including five three-pointers, to go with four rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block in an 82-46 win over Providence Jan. 31.

Kitchen also had 12 points, three rebounds, six assists and three steals in a 67-28 victory at East Mecklenburg Feb. 3.

Kitchen is averaging 14.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 3.1 steals per game for an Independence team (20-2) that has won 13 straight games this season.

Rayana Minard, West Cabarrus Basketball: The 5-foot-6 freshman scored 27 points, had five assists and five steals to lead West Cabarrus to 70-62 win at Mooresville Feb. 3.

Minard also scored 16 points with three assists and three steals in a 67-36 victory at South Iredell Feb. 1.

Minard opened the week with 11 points, three assists and two steals in a 65-42 win over A.L. Brown Jan. 31.

West Cabarrus is 15-7 overall this season.

Taylor Parker, Hickory Grove Basketball: The 6-foot-1 senior scored 25 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, four steals and two blocks to lead Hickory Grove to a 45-26 win at Gaston Christian Feb. 3.

Parker is averaging 16 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two assists per game for Hickory Grove (10-7) this season.

Elle Stone, Mallard Creek Basketball: The 5-foot-10 sophomore scored 12 points, had six steals, two blocks and one rebound in a 66-20 win at East Mecklenburg Jan. 31.

Stone followed that up with 17 points, four rebounds, four steals, one assist and one block in a 76-34 victory over Hough Feb. 3.

Stone is averaging 18.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.2 steals and 1.4 assists per game for Mallard Creek (18-4) this season.

Deja White, Metrolina Christian Basketball: The 6-foot senior scored 20 points, had 13 rebounds, five blocks and four steals in a 68-32 win over Westminster Catawba on senior night Feb. 3.

Metrolina Christian (14-9) also lost to 39-29 at Northside Christian Jan. 31.

Kiley Wilhelm, Myers Park Swimming: The Mustangs’ senior captain won 4A West Regional titles in both the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly at Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center Feb. 4.

Wilhelm also helped the Mustangs’ 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relays to regional titles as the Myers Park girls’ swim team also claimed the 4A West Regional championship the same day.

Wilhelm is a Harvard University commit.

Ria Wright, West Caldwell Wrestling: The Warriors’ junior won the 107-pound title at the NCHSAA Women’s State Wrestling Invitational in Greensboro Feb. 4.

Wright had three straight pins to get to the finals before winning a 6-4 decision in the championship match.

Wright is 29-14 overall this season.
