Here are this week’s nominees for The Charlotte Observer girls high school athlete of the week.

This week’s Nominees

Anna Dew, Hickory Ridge Softball: The Ragin’ Bulls’ senior went 2-for-5 with a home run, a double and five RBI in a 19-6 win at South Iredell March 14.

The next day, Dew went 1-for-2 at the plate with a RBI, while pitching all seven innings with 14 strikeouts in a 5-0 win over South Stanly.

Dew finished off the week by going 4-for-4 at the plate with one home run, two doubles and five RBI, while going another seven innings on the mound with 14 strikeouts in a 9-0 victory at Lake Norman.

Dew, an Elon University commit, is batting .483 with seven doubles, three home runs and 16 RBI, while going 6-1 on the mound with 79 strikeouts in 42 innings of work, boasting a 0.33 ERA for Hickory Ridge (7-1) this season.

Nina Dominique, Charlotte Christian Track: The Knights’ sophomore ran 11.90 to win the 100-meter dash at the Clash of the Carolinas’ at Cuthbertson March 18.

The Charlotte Christian girls’ team also finished 19th overall in the 28-team field at the same event.

Gracie Hollingsworth, Union Academy Softball: The Cardinals’ senior tossed a no-hitter with 17 strikeouts in an 8-0 win at Jay M. Robinson March 16.

Hollingsworth also struck out five batters in two innings to earn the victory on the mound in a 22-1 win over Jay M. Robinson March 14.

Hollingsworth is 4-0 on the mound with 75 strikeouts in 39 innings of work with an 0.19 ERA, while hitting .469 with four doubles and seven RBI at the plate for Union Academy (7-0) this season.

Annie Miller, Metrolina Christian Indoor Track: The Warriors’ sophomore ran the anchor leg of the Girls’ Distance Medley Relay to a fifth-place finish at the Adidas Indoor Nationals in Virginia Beach, as the quartet ran a school-record 13:02.46 (breaking the previous mark by 24 seconds) March 17.

Miller ran the anchor leg (1,600-meter run) in 5:16.66 to finish off the race that teammates Lillian Anderson, Taylor Dixon and Aubrey Matasic also participated.

The school-record run was No. 9 indoor time in state history all-time, No. 36 in state history (indoor or outdoor).

Ginny Overbay, East Lincoln Girls’ Soccer: The Mustangs’ senior created a one-on-one that earned a penalty kick, and then had the game-winning assist in a 2-1 win in the opening round of the Andy Kosmala and Miranda Eckerd Memorial Tournament at East Lincoln March 15.

Overbay played striker in the game, before moving to center back the last 10 minutes to help preserve the win.

Overbay also played center back primarily in tournament championship game with South Point, who beat East Lincoln on penalty kicks after 1-1 tie in regulation. Overbay moved to striker for the final 16 minutes, to help tie the game, then played goalkeeper making two saves in the penalty kick phase of the game.

The tournament, which benefited cancer survivors, Virginia Mackel and Tammi Wilson, raised more than $5,000 this weekend.

Riya Patel, Marvin Ridge Softball: The Mavericks’ senior shortstop went 5-for-7 with four singles, a home run, three RBI and two runs scored this week as Marvin Ridge won 6-2 at Parkwood March 14, and won 14-4 over Legion Collegiate March 15.

Marvin Ridge is 6-1 this season.

Addie Porter, Hickory Ridge Girls’ Soccer: The Ragin’ Bulls’ scored four goals, including the first three scores of the game, to lead Hickory Ridge to an 8-1 win over Northwest Cabarrus March 16.

Hickory Ridge (4-1) also won 3-0 at Hopewell March 14.

Charlotte Stavis, Mallard Creek Girls’ Soccer: The Mavericks’ scored five goals in a 10-0 win over Concord March 13.

Stavis also had two goals and one assist in 9-0 victory at West Charlotte March 16.

Stavis has 11 goals and two assists for Mallard Creek (3-1-1) this season.

Taylor Suarez, Ardrey Kell Girls’ Soccer: The Knights’ had both goals in a 2-0 win over rival, South Mecklenburg March 17.

Suarez, the Charlotte Observer and N.C. Gatorade player of the year, has eight goals and two assists this season.

Suarez is a Florida State commit.

Jahaila Wright, Olympic Track: The Trojans’ junior won the long jump with a personal-best 18-3 at the Clash of the Carolinas at Cuthbertson, March 18.

Wright was also the runner-up in the triple jump with a 37-10.5 at the same event.
