Here are this week’s nominees for The Charlotte Observer girls high school athlete of the week.

This week’s Nominees

Tate Allison, Pine Lake Prep Baseball: The Pride senior pitched 6.1 innings allowing just five hits and one run, while striking out eight batters in a 5-1 win over the Charlotte Stampede March 20.

Allison was also 1-for-2 at the plate in an 11-1 loss at Bandys March 22.

Allison finished off the week by going 2-for-4 with doubles, two RBI and three runs scored in a 15-8 victory over Mountain Island Charter March 23.

Allison is 1-1 on the mound with 13 strikeouts and a 1.14 earned-run average (ERA), while also hitting .222 with three doubles and six RBI for Pine Lake Prep (2-6) this season.

Will Crispino, Cannon School Lacrosse: The Cougars’ senior scored one goal and won 10 of 12 faceoffs in a 7-4 win at Lake Norman Charter March 22.

Crispino also scored eight goals, had one assist and won 13 of 18 faceoffs in a 15-11 win at Roswell (GA) March 24.

The next day, Crispino had two goals, one assist and won 16 of 29 faceoffs in a 14-7 victory at Centennial (GA).

Cannon School is still unbeaten at 6-0 overall this season.

Alair Gao, Marvin Ridge Tennis: The Mavericks’ senior helped clinch a 5-4 win over Hough, teaming with Praneel Choudhary to win at No. 3 doubles 8-2 March 20.

The next day, Gao won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles, and 8-1 at No. 2 doubles in a 9-0 sweep of Porter Ridge.

Marvin Ridge (6-2) also won 9-0 at Piedmont March 23.

Case Gibbs, Providence Day Baseball: The Chargers’ sophomore pitched two innings in relief going 35 pitches while allowing no hits and no runs in an 11-7 win over the Carolina Royals March 23.

Gibbs also pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts in a 5-2 win over Christ School March 25.

Providence Day (6-4) also lost 10-2 to Wesleyan Christian Academy March 22.

Gibbs is 5-0 on the mound with a 0.87 earned-run average, while allowing opponents a .153 batting average this season. He is also batting .269 at the plate this season.

Quinn Haines, Lake Norman Lacrosse: The Wildcats’ senior midfielder had five goals, two assists and five groundballs in a 13-8 win at Providence Day March 22.

Haines also scored four goals in a 16-3 victory over Weddington March 25.

Lake Norman is 8-2 overall this season.

Will Hartman, Charlotte Catholic Golf: The Cougars’ freshman shot a one-under par 35 to earn medalist honors in a Southwestern 4A conference match at the Divide, March 20. The Charlotte Catholic boys’ golf team won by seven shots over Providence in the same match with East Mecklenburg and Independence also playing.

Hartman also won a five-under par, 67, to earn medalist honors while leading Charlotte Catholic to a 12-shot victory over Charlotte Latin at Carmel Country Club, March 22.

Hartman, who averages a 34.4 per nine holes this season, has shot under par in six straight matches.

Wesley Jones, Charlotte Christian Baseball: The Knights’ senior pitched a complete-game, shutout, striking out 11 batters in seven innings allowing only one hit in a 1-0 victory at Wesleyan Christian Academy March 21.

Charlotte Christian (7-4) also won 6-3 at Charlotte Catholic March 23.

Jones, a Charlotte 49ers’ signee, is 2-1 this season with 31 strikeouts in 25 innings, while boasting a 0.56 earned-run average (ERA).

Chase Kiker, Metrolina Christian Baseball: The Warriors’ freshman pitched six innings with 11 strikeouts allowing just one hit on 69 pitches in a 10-0 win over Charlotte Latin March 23.

Metrolina Christian (8-2) also won 16-0 at Gaston Day, March 21, and won 10-0 at the Charlotte Stampede March 24.

Kiker is 4-1 on the mound with with 42 strikeouts in 24 innings of work this season.

Jacob Kirby, Ardrey Kell Baseball: The Knights’ senior had two hits and two RBI as Ardrey Kell came back a 7-0 deficit to win 8-7 at Myers Park March 21.

Kirby, a University of North Carolina signee, also pitched 6.1 innings with 10 strikeouts in a 8-2 victory over Myers Park March 24.

Ardrey Kell (7-2) has won five straight games.

Charlie O’Shea, Charlotte Country Day Golf: The Buccaneers’ senior shot a 2-over par 73 to earn co-medalist honors in a match with Charlotte Latin and Providence Day at Cedarwood March 23.

O’Shea’s play also helped the Charlotte Country Day boys’ golf team to a victory in the same match.

Jeremiah Shine, Union Academy Baseball: The Cardinals’ sophomore went 2-for-4 with a double, two stolen bases, two runs and two RBI in a 10-0 win over Gray Stone Day March 20.

The next night, Shine went 3-for-5 at the plate with a triple, two stolen bases, two runs and a RBI in 12-1 win at Gray Stone Day.

Shine is batting .439 with two doubles, three triples, one home run, 11 RBI, 18 runs scored and seven stolen bases for Union Academy (5-7) this season.

Caden Townshend, Weddington Track: The Warriors’ senior ran a 1:55.85 to win the 800-meter run at the Weddington Invitational March 25.

Townshend’s efforts helped the Weddington boys’ track team to victory at the same meet, beating runner-up Cuthbertson by six points.

Townshend is a University of Mississippi commit.

Anthony Umbach, Hickory Ridge Baseball: The Ragin’ Bulls’ senior went 9-for-16 with two doubles, eight RBI and five runs scored as Hickory Ridge went 3-1 this week.

Hickory Ridge (9-2) won at Mooresville (20-3, March 20), beat South Iredell (9-8, March 24) and defeated Jay M. Robinson (9-8, March 25), while losing 5-2 at South Iredell March 21.

Ashton Wolfe, Butler Baseball: The Bulldogs’ senior left-handed pitcher threw six innings, allowing only two hits, one run, while striking out seven batters in a 3-1 win at East Mecklenburg to put Butler in first-place in the Southwestern 4A conference March 21.

Butler (6-4, 5-1 in the SW4A) also won 4-3 over East Mecklenburg, March 24.

Luke Wolff, Providence Baseball: The Panthers’ senior went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run in a 5-2 win over Asheville March 25.

Providence (4-4) also lost 5-3 at Alexander Central March 23.
