Volunteers Bring Supplies to People Stuck at Russia-Georgia Border Crossing

Volunteers delivered supplies to men who have spent days in their cars waiting to cross the border from Russia’s North Ossetia region into Georgia after President Vladimir Putin’s announcement of a “partial mobilization” of military reservists.

One of the volunteers who handed out food and water to people waiting to cross the border told Storyful they didn’t know the exact number of people waiting, but that it was “a lot.”

Cars can be seen along the road a few miles north of the Verkhny Lars border crossing point in this video, from Tuesday, September 27.

On Monday, the Ministry of Internal Affairs in North Ossetia said “a significant accumulation” of about 2,300 passenger vehicles were lined up, heading toward the border with Georgia.

Reports of crowding at the border crossing first emerged on September 21, in the hours after Putin’s announcement. Credit: Anonymous via Storyful
