Vin Diesel Reveals Odd First Choice For The Rock's Fast & Furious Role

Perhaps it’s part of the on-going ‘feud’ between Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel, but Vin has now said that The Rock was not the first choice for his role in the ‘Fast & Furious’ movies.

Johnson has played agent Luke Hobbs in the series since ‘Fast 5’ in 2011, but it may have been a rather different dynamic, had things panned out as they had been originally planned.

In a Q&A with fans on his Facebook page, he said: “Back in the fifth film, I was asking ‘Who should I work with?’ The reason why we brought Dwayne Johnson into Fast Five was because of you.

“There was a girl named Jen (maybe, Jan?) Kelly who said, ‘I would love to see you guys work together on-screen.’ And so, we gave a role that was initially written for Tommy Lee Jones but we gave it to Dwayne, and he shined in it.”

Tommy Lee Jones and The Rock. Two actors so interchangeable…

Despite Diesel’s kind words about The Rock ‘shining’ in the role, the pair are said to be gripped in a row over on-set behaviour.

The Rock took to Instagram to call certain members of the male cast of ‘Fast & Furious 8’ ‘candy-asses’, and ‘chicken sh*t’.

He then failed to pay tribute to Diesel in another post as the movie officially wrapped, but thanked most of the other crew.

However, there’s now a theory that it could all be a mutually advantageous PR stunt for a Wrestlemania event, taking place just a couple of weeks ahead of the release of ‘Fast & Furious 8’ in April next year, just when the movie will be hitting peak publicity.
