NN Group's core profit fell 12.1% year-on-year in the first half of 2022, the Dutch insurer said on Thursday, citing the impact of weather events and the sale of its asset management arm. The figure beat analyst expectations by 2%, Alexander Evans from Credit Suisse wrote in a flash note to clients. Asian shares extended a global rally on Thursday after softer-than-expected U.S. inflation data encouraged bets of less aggressive rate hikes from the Federal Reserve, while the dollar struggled for footing after its biggest plunge in five months. U.S. consumer prices were unchanged in July compared with June, when they rose a monthly 1.3%. "Rising real yields, due to the Fed's commitment to fighting inflation, have been an enormous problem for valuations in 2022, so any dovishness is seen as positive by the stock market, particularly for the highest valued companies," said Oliver Blackbourn, multi-asset portfolio manager at Janus Henderson Investors.

COLOGNE, Germany (AP) — Water levels on the Rhine River could reach a critically low point in the coming days, German officials said Wednesday, making it increasingly difficult to transport goods — including coal and gasoline — as drought and an energy crisis grip Europe.
