When a select group of editors and buyers at Milan Fashion Week received a handwritten invite from Donatella Versace to a reveal of “something special” on Sunday night, the last day of the SS/22 shows, the rumours of a Fendi collaboration, first started by an Instagram photo Kim Kardashian posted of herself with Fendi’s Kim Jones and Donatella Versace earlier this summer, hit fever pitch.

And on Sunday night in Milan, close friends Donatella and Kim Jones revealed the results of their “creative dialogue” (just don’t call it a collaboration, they stressed), which saw the pair switch roles, each designing a collection for the others’ house.

First up came Kim Jones and Silvia Venturini-Fendi’s Versace vision, modelled by Kristen McMenamy, Paloma Elsesser, Lila Grace Moss, Karen Elson, Kate Moss and Amber Valletta, which majored in medusa-print silk separates, ‘FENDACE’ logo belts, baroque print swimsuits and chunky gold jewellery and baguette bags that merged the Versace Greco logo with the Fendi ‘F’.

Then Donatella, with the help of Mona Tougaard, Gigi Hadid, Emily Ratajkowski and Naomi Campbell, brought some of her super sexy latino flex to Fendi’s sophisticated glamour via flashes of fuchsia, sequinned scarf print pencil skirts and a baby pink chainmail dress much like that which Dua Lipa had worn to close the Versace show on Friday – only this time subtly shimmering with an ‘F’ logo.

Elizabeth Hurley - who shot Versace’s now-iconic safety-pin embellishment to sartorial stardom at the premiere of Four Weddings and a Funeral back in 1994 – was say front row with her son Damian, alongside Winnie Harlow and Iris Law. As the show notes stated, Fendace is Fashion with a capital F – and a capital V.
