A fresh trailer of Venom: Let There Be Carnage has just been released, giving fans a first glimpse of Naomie Harris' new banshee-like villain.

The English actress – best known for the role of Eve Moneypenny on the James Bond movie franchise – is set to star as Frances Barrison aka Shriek in the upcoming Venom adventure.

The trailer sees Harris in character for a blink-and-you-ll-miss-it moment, but her screeching screams are guaranteed to stay with fans well after the short clip.

As her name suggests, Shriek is able to release powerful soundwave blasts which she can also use to help her fly through the air.

Directed by Andy Serkis, Let There Be Carnage is a sequel to 2018's Venom, which first introduced Tom Hardy as investigative journalist and Venom host, Eddie Brock. The cast also features Michelle Williams, returning as Brock's ex-fiancée Anne Weying, and Woody Harrelson as serial killer Cletus Kasady.

The brand new trailer sees Brock entering Ravencroft prison where both Kasady and Barrison are in custody. Following a little cannibalistic incident, Kasady becomes the host of an alien symbiote, taking on the identity of Carnage.

And it looks like Harris' character has a special connection to Harrelson's spine-chilling murderer. Shriek is, in fact, Kasady's long-standing love interest and harbours a dark past.

According to the character's official backstory, Shriek was bullied by her mother for being overweight as a child. Turning to a life of crime and drug dealing, Barrison was later shot in the head during an altercation with the police and ended up in the out-there Darkforce Dimension. As part of her resurrection, Shriek realised she had mutant abilities.

While the resurrection plot is unlikely to be explored in Venom 2, it looks like Shriek will have a prominent role in the new Marvel movie.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage is coming out in the UK cinemas on September 15 and in the US on September 24, 2021.
